    "Our stay was marred by one of our party being sent to stay elsewhere because of the hotel being overbooked. When we finally saw the manager for an explanation and apology, there was a totally inadequate offer of a free bottle of wine, if we ate at the hotel that night - which we had already decided not to do. Other than this, there was no attempt to offer us any compensation for the inconvenience. The accommodation was badly in need of upgrading and we would not stay here again." (107424542)

    Breakfast was good and the restaurant pleasant. The hotel was attractive from the outside and well situated.

    On arrival we found the hotel could not honour all our booking and one of our party had been relocated to a local B&B 20 minutes walk away. The manager was not available to see us at that point and had left it to his staff to inform us. In the hotel the bedrooms were poorly decorated and the mattresses were old and smelt of stale cigarette smoke. The shared bathroom, for the room which was not en suite, was dirty with brown stains on the grouting. The over bath shower was almost impossible to adjust to a suitable temperature. In the en suite room the shower was also old and in poor working order.

    Very friendly staff and loved the fact locals mixed with the customers - didn't feel as though we were on our own. Good food (loved the breakfast) and chat with all staff. Fabulous atmosphere. Entertainment was good too. I'd definitely recommend it. And there were biscuits in the room!!!

    Had booked 2 rooms and didn't have an on-suite in one room, but that's part of life when you go to a hotel with atmosphere rather than one which is modern and impersonal.

    Breakfast was excellent! 5 out of 5 for the cooked scottish breakfast. Also, staff were quite friendly

    Temperature of shower didn't work very well, entire bathroom just looked run down- updating certainly needed- even a lick of paint would help. Even outside our window needed sprucing up- rubbish had been lying so long it was weathered and a rusty, peeling stair gave the impression the entire building had been neglected. To be honest, we wouldn't have been so bothered if the price hadn't been so high!

    "Booked on a whim, my wife had to stay over night in hospital and I did not fancy another five hours driving to go home and come back in freezing conditions. Greeted by warm effervescent staff late at night, shown to warm clean room. As it was late I did not want anything to eat, but it was offered.     We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. found service, staff and meals excellent.

    Hotel overall including bedrooms require better heating i.e. central heating. perhaps. Kettle was situated too low in twin room and not practical for the elderly or children. A bit of a safety issue. En suites would benefit from upgrading and heating facilities.

    Nice, quiet village. Lots of lounge room downstairs, with service if required, but separate from the pub. The coffee improved a lot in the second morning, after a couple of failed attempts in the first.

    The young women in customer service couldn't care less for their work.

    we made a reservation for an ensuite double room, we didn't get it. The shower on the corridor was terrible and it really is disgusting to have a toilet in the bathroom.

    Good evening meal in the restaurant.

    Booking stated - premier room beautifully decorated. This was far from correct information. Door between main room and toilet did not close properly. Plumbing made loud noises every time toilet was flushed. Bed in one of rooms sank in the middle. Carpets needed a good clean. I could go on and on.........

    Food was excellent. We had our evening meal in the hotel and both the starter and main course could not have been better. English cooked breakfast was included in the price of the room and was also excellent.

    The room had mould growing on the ceiling and in the bottom of the shower. It was right above the outside bar area so had people laughing and shouting into the early hours. The room was facing into the sun so was roasting when we were shown into it and it just never cooled down all night. It was like trying to sleep in a sauna and we both found it impossible to sleep with the combination of the heat and the noise from outside. Fitting a fan in the room would be beneficial.

    Easy check in and check out. Same price as quoted (no surprises). Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast, nice atmosphere.

    Cleaning could have been better. Noisy water filling of toilet (not to be used during night).

    Food in the restaurant was very tasty although the service was painfully slow and not very friendly.

    We booked on line and were double booked so our two rooms were not available so we had to share. It was incredibly warm and the room overlooked an outside seating area which was very noisy. The shower in the (shared) bathroom wasn't up to much either. Everything seemed like too much trouble to the staff.

    Nice to have an en suite. Very good food -high quality ingredients and well presented. Staff friendly and very accommodating.

    The noise in the evening outside our room from drunken youths until the early hours of the morning with a lot of bad language. This would deter us from staying here again, unfortunately.

    "This is a relaxed and pleasant hotel with friendly staff and delicious food. The rooms are comfortable and generally well equipped. Some modernisation is required (esp in bathrooms)but this may reduce its charm! Perhaps the lack of heat in the mornings (it was January!) would have been useful to know in advance, I would have brought a warm jumper." (97499375)

    Excellent service and food. Comfortable bed. Quiet surroundings. Good car parking. I was able to control the room heat in my room and open the window.Shared bathroom was clean and situated near my room.

    Poor shower, no curtain and temperature difficult to control (there was a bath). Dining room cold at breakfast. A chair in my room would have been appreciated.

    "The hotel is set in a quiet village and has a homly peaceful feel about it. The directions were easy and straightforward, checking in and out were trouble-free.Small but ample parking to the rear Overall a very enjoyable experience even we were there one night only." (97059035)

    The hotel has a warm friendly feel about it and the peaceful silence of the place even the music stops at 11.30pm and excellent breakfast.
