    "Pleasent surroundings, surprisingly quiet where our room was, next time might try a room in the hotel itself. The hotel had been recommended and even though there were minor complaints all in all it was a restful stay. " (108646317)

    friendly staff, especially the maitre d' in the evening of the 28th & the breakfast waiter ( the eldely chap ), please compliment them. Pleasent walk around the lake each day after breakfast.

    I dont think the room was particularly clean, cobwebs, stained carpets & furniture. Disappointed whenn asking for kippers for breakfast to get 1 kipper fillet, i expected something better than that.

    Overall the hotel was very good, the grounds were lovely and there was plenty to see. Food was very good and staff were very friendly/ helpful.

    They had a problem with the boiler, subsequently we had no hot water, however, they did their very best to resolve the situation, even calling the maintence officer from off-duty to fix the problem. We were upgraded to another room for the in-convenience, however, the hot water had affected the whole hotel. We did get hot water within 3 hours though.

    Luxury Hotel in very nice country setting, excellent service the breakfast was very good

    First room we were taken to was cold without the heating on (it was 2 - 3 degrees C outside and it was a small room , however we were quickly moved to a warm and spacious room.

    Very peaceful. Excellent breakfast and dinner. All staff very amenable.

    We stayed for 4 nights and the dinner menu did not change.

    "The hotel is ideally placed to sightsea the area, including the de la Warr pavilion at Bexhill, Rye and the coast line. Excellent walks, expecially good being able to walk to Battle from the hotel. The public areas were really comfortable and friendly staff made guests feel welcome." (97774035)

    Comfortable public areas, warm hotel and good breakfasts. The beds were comfortable and of a reasonable size, 5ft.

    Missing light bulbs, loose fittings in the bathroom, noisy room overlooking the carpark, so it was very noisy in the mornings. Lack of attention to detail in bedroom and bathroom, the towel rail was very loose, and the blinds were damaged.

    If I have to critisise then the piped music in the orangery restaurant was not to my taste.

    The room was a good size.Very clean and comfortable.

    There was nothing we disliked about our accomodation.

    "The hotel has a really picturesque setting and possibly it heightens expectations somewhat. We didn't think it lived up to those. The service from staff was variable - staff in restaurant were friendly and helpful - reception staff were rather dour and sullen to be honest! The room was pleasant enough, though it was a bit of a sauna even in October! The light fixture faults and other minor issues were irritating rather than big problems. We had dinner in restaurant - food was ok but nothing more than that. Overall we found it a difficult place to figure - it fells like it has ambitions/pretensions to be somewhat upmarket but the quality of the food and some of the quality of service didn't seem to match those ambitions. We found it all a little bit dated - as if it didn't relly know what it was trying to actually aim for." (97591073)

    Beautiful setting and some of internal lounges/rest areas

    Working order of equipment in room really poor - three out of four table lamps didn't work, had provided ironing board but no iron - asked for one and was brought to us - but it didn't work either!

    "very relaxing and peaceful. Although there were many other guests, there was always somewhere to sit and relax without crowds. The room was lovely and clean and the beds were very comfortable. The staff were very polite and friendly. My sister and i booked a twin room for an overnight stay on route to visit my son. We have decided to stay there again for a weekend in the summer. My son is attending a wedding reception at this hotel in the summer and now intends to book a room on our recommendation" (99070085)

    The open log fire, friendly staff,peaceful atmosphere and surrounding areas ie Battle, which is only 5 minutes by car.

    the bathroom was amazing, shame that there wasn't a door to the room, for privacy. the room was warm and quiet. the furniture was impressive, would have been nice to have a stool to sit on in front of the dressing table in room 20.

    i had ordered the day previous for there to be champagne in our room apon arrival, it was not ready even though we arrived a little after we had expected to. having a hot breakfast in our room would have been expected but was surprisingly not available.

    "The staff at the hotel were lovely, every single one we met, the room was superb, individual and with lots of character, better than a chain hotel any day. The breakfast was the best we had ever had at a hotel, usually that is the downfall as they are usually buffet style english breakfasts, but this was cooked to order and was brilliant, local products, homemade bread, service friendly and genuine.     "The hotel is in a beautiful setting with a lake, a five minute drive from Battle (you could not walk this as the road is quite busy with no pavements and very little street lighting). The executive double room we booked was spacious and comfortable, with a lovely four poster bed. The only minor complaint was there was only a bath shower attachment -it did go boiling hot or freezing cold at intervals! However, the room was excellent value for money. We did not eat an evening meal at the hotel but the breakfast was very good. Staff were pleasant. We would definitely stay here again." (99773994)

    The room was nice, although getting a little tired in places. Our last visit to this hotel was almost 14 years ago when it was kept to a very high standard. The staff and restaurant were excellent and the hotel has a fantastic atmosphere. The grounds are magnificent.

    Nothing really, but the room we had will need some updating shortly, especially in some areas. The bed was very bouncy and soft. The cushions on the sofa were marked. The bathroom may also need some cosmetic repairs.

    the room was decorated beautifully for a standard room and the view was easy on the eyes and the staff helpful and friendly.

    the walls were paperthin you could hear the next room using the toilet!not much of a selection of channels to watch on t.v ,there was no pen in the room to order breakfast in bed!which as parents would have been a luxury!,also the room overlooked the courtyard and everytime someone arrived or departed the senser light come on and disturbed our sleep,noisey teenagers letting car tyres down in the car park,but they were reprehended to be fair.

    "We booked into Powdermills as we were attending a funeral in the area. The wake was held in their banquet facility so made sense to be local! From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and looked after by the staff. After the event the immediate family stayed on and had a few drinks in the bar before having a light supper in the restuarant. As far as a venue, service and hospitality goes, these guys have got it right and helped us turn what could have been a very somber occassion into a light hearted enjoyable celebration of life - to which we would always be grateful. If you're looking for a quiet place in a beautiful setting to take the missus away for a romantic weekend - this is definitely one to consider." (99938913)

    The setting, the facilities and the friendlieness of the staff, absolutely superb. Had a great evening and they couldn't do enough for us. The breakfast is probably the best one I had in the last couple of years, the chef actually knew how to deliver a proper english breakfast - top noch.
