    No good points

    I realise that this is an old hotel but surely the decor could be updated. The pool hadn't been cleaned for months - this was the main reason I decided on this hotel. The brochure gave an image that this hotel is set in its own grounds but it was on a main road and could be anybody's front garden. The room absolutly stank! Once the smell of disinfectant and shake and vac wore off the whole room, especially the bed smelt of vomit. I stayed the one night and put a towel over my pillow and hardly slept a wink on the very hard bed. I checked out and didn't stay the whole 3 nights that I had booked and went to a different hotel.

    Booked a twin room (as couldn't guarantee size of double bed). The room we were given was not a twin room - it was a room with a dble bed together with a seperate but attached rm with 2 bunk beds and one single bed. The mattress on the single bed was very lumpy and sloped to one side and was only really suitable for a teenager.. We asked to change to a twin room but received a very unsympathetic response. In order to get a good night sleep had to resort to putting pillows under the mattress.

    Staff eager to please and were helpful

    very poor management, they did not have a clue as to the service that was being delivered, the overall appearance of the hotel was very dated and oppressive the windows were dirty and the area surrounding the hotel was in need of attention.Interior decor, like wallpaper hanging off the walls,this hotel needs a complete makeover and some of the furniture needs replacing it's shabby - not really what we expected.

    The hotel is very close to town centre in a nice environment. It has beautyful garden, you can sit out and enjoy sunshine. Staff are very kind and helpfull. Breakfast was more than enough, very testy , service very quick, lovely lounge. Our room was nicely decorated, very homely and big enough.

    Our room and toilet vas not clean. The carpet needed a good vacum, the toilet sit needed to clean before use, the shower needs to replace.

    The staff were friendly and helpful. The decor and appearance of the public area was extremely good. The bedroom was quite large and well appointed and the bed was comfortable.

    We ate in the hotel on our first night and found that the food was well cooked but not hot. The roast potatoes seemed to have been cooked long before the meal was served. The portion of veg was rather meagre.

    Friendly staff

    Shabby and old fashioned. Hot radiators everywhere made the hotel stuffy. Scrambled eggs for breakfast looked like they had been 'diluted' with milk or water. Definitely only for coach trips.

    Room & Lady on Reception where lovely she made a good impression for the hotel, friendly and chattie

    breakfast plates way to small it was served on a plate just bigger than a side plate!, only other thing we arrived early due to ferry times and went to hotel but told room not ready till 3pm going back at 3pm was then told room had been ready all along (perhaps they should have checked) but never mind

    we stayed B&B for 4 nights and it worked out well as a base for visiting places of interest in the Isle of Wight

    car parking could be better as ther are more cars than spaces

    Hotel looked a bit tired and in need of decorating. Room adequate and very clean, but lacking in comfort. bed lumpy, and very thin pillows.

    Ambience of the hotel was too good, especially the Ship-Deck modelled corridors. We enjoyed playing pool during the night. Rooms were clean and compact.

    Breakfast was not that great. It was very limited and the range was very less.

    Smell in Bathroom, broken fittings, cheap tea and coffee in the room. Shower was poor. Not a three star hotel, id rather stay in a travelodge.

    "we only used the hotel as a place to sleep and it did the job. There was a musty smell about the place and the bed was very uncomfortable so much so that we both hardly slept. There was no hot water both evenings and we had to have luke warm showers." (97929434)

    "We were a large party who booked quite last minute, and even though it wasn't possible for everyone to stay at the Parkbury, the staff arranged for another nearby hotel to share the booking & took care of everything for us. Brilliant service- made to feel very welcome." (97456790)

    The staff were excellent- really high level of service at all times.

    The shower wasn't very powerful.

    The perfect central location for the island. Very friendly competent staff. The hotel was spotlessly clean and comfortable and the breakfast of a good standard.

    There was no lift which posed a slight problem as my parents are very elderly and rely on crutches for walking. We had actually requested a ground floor room for this reason. However we did not let this spoil our short break on the sland. The only thing which let the hotel down really was the incompetence of the over the bath showers.

    shower not easy to regulate temperature (did not bother to report this) and one radiator did not work (although staff happily supplied a fan heater upon discovery of this)

    "The hotel obviously caters for coach loads of people, which is fine, but does cause a lot of noise of people walking overhead and outside our room. I could clearly hear the lady in the room next door on her mobile and every word from hear was easily heard. Our breakfast was served in a separate room from the coach parties, so our service was very quick. As a business stopover it is better than average, but I wouldn't want to holiday there" (97051299)

    Hotel in a nice position in Sandown,easy to get to via public transport.Comfortable rooms and friendly staff.

    Hotel very noisey at night and early in the morning also central heating in hotel set to nuclear hot.

    "I would like to have known that there was no shampoo or shower gel - only a very small piece of soap. Consequently we had to go out and buy some. Dinner was served between 6.30 and 6.45 - probably because the waitress opened the bar at 8. It is also the fastest I have been served a 5 course meal - we had finished in under an hour! Although the food was OK we would have liked to have had the chance to take longer over it. The waitress also had a bare midriff which I didn't think gave a good impression and the waiter in the morning needed to iron his shirt. Just little things, but impressions that stick in the mind."     The bedroom was very spacious with a comfortable bed. There was plenty of storage space.

    The bathroom was outdated. The plumbing was not up to modern standards, as there was no thermostatic control on the shower. This meant that the water was difficult to get to the correct temperature and a child or elderly person could have scalded themself.

    "At the time of year we stayed we may well have been the only guests under 60! This hotel seems more suited to taking care of older guests. It would be handy to know that on the website. Also the rooms have no mini fridges which are common to a lot of 3 star hotels now." (97470481)

    The American/Canadian? waitress at breakfast was very friendly and prompt. The hotel was clean and tidy and had nice grounds.

    The bathroom was small and dark and out of date. We asked for a double room and were given a family room with a double bed and two single beds. The hotel decor is out of date.

    "Hotel was very adequate for what we paid. The staff were friendly, the room a good size although dated in decor. The photo of the Parkbury hotel on the internet is a little deceiving though as it looks like it has grand gardens but the picture is in fact the front garden which is between the road and the hotel. The garden is well manacured though." (99180914)

    The new assistant manager - very friendly and nothing too much trouble. Overall experience was very good.

    Room was very dated. The staff in the restaurant although all very pleasant could do with a little training. Our breakfast table was unlaid and all the cuttlery etc was given to us in a pile for us to lay ourselves!!

    "There were no surprises..The hotel is an older one. I was excited by the fact that the interior had a lot of paneling , etc. from the interior of the Aquitania, the last of the four funnel ships. I had breakfasts every day and they were excellent. The staff were great and the manager was very helpful ." (99393210)

    Comfortable and clean.

    Initially there were problems with the telephone but it was repaired. Water temperature was difficult to adjust in the shower but maybe many people were using the facilities at the same time.
