  "Lovely quiet location, great facilities, good value for money...let down only by the decor. Poor selection of local ales & whiskeys." (107116237)

  On paper this is an excellent hotel & the new leisure complex is a fantastic attraction.

  The Popinjay is a little dated & tired & the interior design could be overhauled.

  All perfectly satisfactory. Only a minor problem in that one window was unable to be opened to ventilate the room, but staff responded promptly by offering alternative option, although we were too tired to be bothered to move. Very remotest of chances that we would ever pass your way again, SO PLEASE, NO UNSOLICITED EMAILS!....we would however be happy to recommend.

  "the staff were warm and friendly . the hotel appears old and tired . My room had four poster and was extremely comfortable and roomy.The food and drink options in the restaurant needs looking into. !!!!!. no to usual best western standard." (108010427)

  very warm greeting on arrival and departure.

  a la carte food was very poor and only choice of 2 wines in restaurant. the bar had no cider options at all.

  "I will book to use this hotel again and hope to get a larger room. I didn't have a chance to use the leisure facilities but look forward to that next time." (97461952)

  Nice location and a nice Olde Worlde character. Excellent breakfast.

  Room very small and decor a little tired, but bed was comfortable and room temperature OK after the window had been open a few hours.

  The hotel is a lovely old building near to a river with nice walks and great for kids to explore and skim pebbles.

  "Was good for a night or two but dont think I would stay any longer than that. Mix up with the rate for our stay we booked it for less anf hotel worked it out to be more than it was." (99548041)

  Friendly enough staff, spa was good enjoyed a sauna and swim, room service was fast.

  The bar meals could have been a bit better wasn't really to the standard that we are used to, we stay away rather a lot and have food in lots of hotels, all we'll say is, we've had better. We had steak pie & battered chicken with garlic mayo.

  "I booked this hotel because it had gym and pool and was not disappointed. Virtually new gym equipment and good sized pool. My room was a good size, clean and comfortable, staff were all very friendly and food was good (no tray charge for room service which is a big plus)" (99621419)

  "It would have been nice to know that there was a large wedding party booked in on the Saturday. The noise in the Oak Room in the evening was unbelievable and the merry-making went on till very late. Even when we were in our room, the shouting and running around (including children)in the corridor outside continued till after midnight. Presumably this is why we were allocated Room 31. If we had known all this, we would have selected another hotel. The fact that there is a swimming-pool helped to make the choice in the hotel's favour." (99898553)

  Comfortable bed, good bathroom and lovely shortbread biscuits. The swimming-pool was an added bonus.

  The view from the window was of a whitewashed wall and the persistent noise from a large vent just outside the room was very intrusive and disturbing.
