    Friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Had a very good meal in the evening. Room spacious and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

    "The hotel was tired and needed some TLC. The radiator in the bedroom did not work and the bathroom was not very clean (cracked plaster). Generally the room we were allocated was stuck in the 1980's and needed refurbishment. The room was therefore expensive for what it was (£85 per night). The restaurant was expensive but the quality of the food and service was excellent. However, there was no-where else in town to eat so you had to pay the price." (108821700)

    The hotel was easy to find and the staff were very pleasant, helpful and welcoming.

    Hotel is on the main road and the front bedroom we stayed in was not double glazed. Boy racers on Friday and Saturday night were a pain.

    Food was wonderful - best meal in a long time. Staff were very helpful.

    Room was a bit dark and shabby but everything worked. Bathroom was very clean and spacious.

    The food was really excellent. The lady on reception was very helpful.

    Minor things like a broken phone and a radiator that couldn't be turned off.

    "Accomodation was acceptable as was the breakfast included, but the heating issue spoiled it." (107729645)

    The room was spacious and the beds comfortable.

    Central heating radiators not working in the room, which for late November was not acceptable. An electric heater was provided but not an adequate substitute as the room took forever to warm up.

    The Hotel which is 200 years old had an oldie worlde feel to it. It was interesting visually, the food was second to none, and the staff were exemplary. I will certainly book again in 2009

    The staff were efficient. Enjoyed the breakfast very much,seem to be good home grown produce.

    The meals in the hotel were very expensive. The brass on the front door and the paintwork needed attention.

    "Very good overall. Apart from the aforementioned stain on the bedroom carpet, the room was generall at a good standard. We thought the restaurant was a little expensive - perhaps there should be a greater variation of price over the menu and wine list; the main courses were all much the same price and whilst I agree that some menu items are inherently expensive, others can be more reasonablely priced."     The hotel is well sited in the centre of town with an excellent car park which is not always the case with a town centre hotel. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I asked if we could leave our car on the car park as we were making a train trip the day we left and this was agreed and much appreciated, particularly as we found the station car par overflowing when we got there.

    There was a rather large stain on the bedroom carpet which was a bit off-putting. We were a little disappointed that we picked the only day the pizzeria was shut which limited our choice to the restaurant.

    Our overall experience at this hotel was good and we would return there by choice in the future. The location of the hotel is great. It gives easy access by road to all directions. The evening meal was of a very good standard. We are vegetarians of 35 years and our meal stood out as one of the top five. Vegetarian menu choice was good,table service was good, presentation was good, quantity of food on your plate was reasonable and 9/10 for taste and texture. The house red wine was appropriate and there were two choices of very good desert wine. The breakfasts were very good. We rate this very high 10/10. The cerial choice was good and very tasty. The cooked breakfast was very, very tasty albeit a bit too much oil/grease. The hotel had a calm ambience and the many original features created an impression of respect for good quality and high expectations.

    The hotel didn't seem very busy and we couldn't understand why we were put in the room furthest away from the entrance. The shower rose was a bit of a nuisance. Tha bed mattress was between firm and hard and we didn't have a good nights sleep for the two nights.

    Receptionist was delightful, made us feel very welcome and the restaurant food was good.

    Paint colour in room, bed cover looked tired and a bit grubby - we felt the hotel needed brightening up in general looked a bit tired.

    "I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. The staff were welcoming and competent, and the food was amazing. The room had been recently refurbished and was very nice. It was also very clean. The breakfast was fantastic and at dinner we had one of the best meals we've had in ages. All in all, an excellent hotel." (107154004)

    Outstanding service, amazing food.

    I can only think of 3 negative points, both pretty minor: (1) our bathroom window didn't close properly, (2) the shower in our room wasn't very good; (3) wifi didn't extend to the room.

    "This Hotel was friendly and central. The evening food was top notch a la carte. The room was wonderfully old fashioned, quirky but very clean and comfortable, the kids loved the bunk beds and little touches like the handmade soap in the bathroom added to the pleasure of the visit.
