    room on top floor,no lighing on landing requested lower floor as I have arthritis.access to room up windy staircaseshower cubicle/wet room did not have non slip tiles/dangerous no fire escape only front door,no staff during night hours so when I had disturbance from drunken youths 2 nights running I felt vunerable and unsafeOnly point of cNTact in an emergency was to ring the front door bell

    Convenient, quiet situation but near to shopping centre and tube stations. Very efficient and friendly staff in the breakfast room.

    Parts of the hotel appear to be undergoing a re-vamp. My room would have benefitted from new thicker curtains, particularly as there was a street lamp just outside the window.

    location was quiet and easy to find near metro. Room was nice, big enough and clean. Tea and coffee in the room. Good breakfast. Staff was kind. No noice from the street.

    - for a room for 3 persons it would be nice if they give 3 towels in stead of 2 - acoustic isolation between rooms could be better, but is only a problem if you have neighbours who prefer to shout at night

    The TV did not work properly, neither did the shower. The water was either too hot or too cold due to the low water pressure. The room was very small, which might be OK for a lower price, but definitely not for 70 pounds/night.

    The receptionist on duty when we arrived was very friendly and helpful as were all the staff, the room was clean and adequate and also had a 32" LCD television and a small couch. The breakfast room was large with 13 or 14 tables and the breakfast was first class (especially the English breakfast).

    The only thing I would have liked is for the TV to be opposite the couch and not the bed.

    The hotel was in a pleasant area of London, was clean and the room was newly painted and furnished. The room was neither too hot, nor too cold, and the fittings were in good working order. The guy staffing reception on the final day was exceptionally helpful, booking us a taxi which arrived within five minutes and chasing after us with a teddy which our little one had dropped. Breakfast was sufficient and tasty.

    In common with a lot of places in London, many of the other staff spoke English as a second language and it was difficult to communicate with them at breakfast. However, they tried to be helpful and we muddled through. Most of the pillows in the room were feather and when we requested non-feather (due to allergy) the request was not understood. The somewhat strange decision to paint the stair wall at breakfast time meant that guests were dodging both the painter and the wall in the attempt to reach the breakfast room, but I guess this is not an everyday occurrence!

    Gentleman at reception was very kind getting our room ready early because of the overnight flight that we had endured. The food and the breakfast staff was very pleasant.

    For 90 pounds per night we thought the room would be more adequate at have some fans or air conditioning. London reached 90 F the 4 days that we were there. Also the doors slammed when you left your room, and maybe they could be closed manually instead of with a spring. Also the halls were very clutered. There was no fire escape access if we needed it. The door closest to our room had old workmanship items blocking access. I had seen at the website that reconstruction and painting had been taking place in the winter, and thought maybe 7 mos. later that it would be completed. Need more work done on it.

    We had booked a triple room and I had assumed this would be three single beds, when in fact on our arrival it was two double beds - this was the standard for a triple room. However, the kind staff moved us to a better and bigger room with three beds in, no questions asked. It was very kind of them, and they were very helpful. Rooms comfy and clean, very good value for money

    Breakfast wasn't all that great.

    Very good breakfast. Excellent setting on a quiet street with park. Friendly staff. Very close to tube station. Easy access to the rest of London. Very clean. It was under renovation and what was already finished looked great. What was not finished just looked a little tired. Breakfast was very substantial and consistently good.

    Not very good water supply in the shower. Shower was built below flight of stairs so it was uncomfortable. No telephone access, not even for local calls.

    The sheets on the bed were clean and it was comfortable. The breakfast wasn't bad and the staff in the breakfast room were very pleasant.

    The hotel was falling apart. I had to clamber over workmen who seemed to be rebuilding part of it. The shower was appalling - the hot water took about five minutes to come on and the water pressure was poor. When I complained I was told someone would come to fix it but needless to say no one did.

    Close to St Pancras Station and British Museum. New, modern bathroom.

    Hotel is in urgent need of refurbishing. Wallpaper, carpet are old, we had a room in the basement, where you could hear the rumble of the Underground. Breakfast room is also in the basement.

    you name it this hotel has it, Pathetic breakfast, dingy rooms, dribble for a shower, bed felt like it was no more than a couple of planks on bricks, decor of the whole hotel was dirty, carpets were filthy and torn, the stair carpet was actually so thread bare and ripped that it was taped down with gaffa tape in numerous places. Downstairs one of the hall ways was being used as a builders yard, plaster board and timber everwhere, considering this would have been a main fire escape, it must have contravened fire regulations. In all this hotel is a dump.

    Room was nicely clean and the bathroom fixtures worked well and were in good repair. Great TV. Adequate storage space. Staff was very nice and reasonably helpful. Good breakfast - good service.

    Noisy - sounds of other guests climbing stairs, banging doors, walking around in nearby rooms were clearly heard and the 12:30 a.m. fire alarm (false alarm) was disturbing, but not the fault of the hotel, I presume. No cable channels on TV. STAIRS - Lots and Lots of STAIRS! A lower floor room would have been better. The hotel was fully occupied but we had booked months early. We'll know to ask next time.

    "My first time here, selected on price and proximity to Kings Cross Tube. First impressions were of a reasonably modern hotel - wooden floors etc - and check-in was very quick (no forms to complete). But the room I was first given was dismal, stained carpet, and no signal to the TV. To be fair they quickly put me in a different room which was brighter and everything was working, although window looked overdue for replacement. My impression is of inconsistent decor and standards. I think refurbishment is going on and the staircases and rooms definitely need some improvement. I didn't try to use wireless internet but there was no info to say whether it was available and free (as advertised). Inclusive breakfast was pretty good although only white bread toast available. Small portable TV in room with terrestrial channels (no teletext). But overall value for money was fair enough I suppose and not markedly different from other budget hotels that I've stayed at even closer to St Pancras & Kings Cross." (97330293)

    A good, comfortable bedroom

    The office did not open until 8:00 a.m. on the Sunday morning. To catch a train I had to leave before then so I had to leave my key in the room door.

    It was my son and girlfriend who stayed at your hotel. They said they had an excellent time. The location of the hotel was ideal for travelling from Kings Cross. As it was their first time in London the location was great for the events they had planned for the weekend.

    No real bad points, however they commented on how brill the bathroom was but the room was a little dated but that the hotel was being refurbished

    "The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. The bedding and bathroom were clean but the room did appear to have been cleaned without attention to detail however. The bathroom facilities all worked but the poor fitting of the plug in the washbasin meant a lot of wasted water and the shower head had to be used by hand as the spray head did not sit corectly in the wall fitting. London Hotel prices being what they are we were not sure what we would get for the price we were paying so overall it was a reasonable experience for the money." (97082446)

    "All in all we were very pleased with the Mentone hotel. The room was pleasant, the location central, we liked the trees before the window. The shower could be improved (especially the possibility of the water not being too hot), but it was not a real discomfort. The staff were friendly and the breakfast plentiful. We also liked the rabbit's-maze aspect of the hotel with many corridors leading up and down into different parts of it... we shall gladly return." (97251667)

    We liked the fact that the room was large (we were 3: mother & 2 boys of 10 & 14), with a high ceiling and tall windows, airy, with cheerful curtains. The small electric kettle with tea, coffee etc. was very welcome.

    It was in a nice area and the room was clean and adequate for our short stay.

    The breakfast room was quite small for the number of people staying there but the breakfast choice was adequate
