    Unfortunately, when I got there, I was informed they had double booked me and although they had tried my phone - oh, really? - they had been unable to contact me. So they put me in a taxi to a place they recommended, which would be much quieter. That bit was true, because the so-called Bed and Breakfast I booked turned out to be a late night bar. Unfortunately the place they sent me was on the other side of town from where I needed to be early in the morning, thus forcing me to take a half hour taxi ride and undermining the purpose of the overnight stay, which was to avoid having to take an early train up from London.

    lively hotel in agreat spot

    parking or rather lack of it was a problem. the nearest car park was very expensive.

    "I would never stay there again for the reasons above, it was very unpleasent going back to my room at night through a busy bar with drunk people and knowing I wouldnt be able to sleep form noise, single glazing!!! Also going to a shared bathroom, which was not left too clean from the previous visitors and not regularly cleaned made me feel dirty after the 2 days I stayed in this hotel." (108275262)

    The room was nice and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was very good as well.

    Bad points outweigh the good I am afraid. bathroom sharing is problematic and unhygenic. You have to queue for a shower and it is not kept as clean. Noise was outrageous, plainly didnt sleep more than 2 hours each night. The hotel is understaffed so breakfast takes a long time.

    For the price it was good for Central Cambridge. The room was clean, if small. Staff were obliging. We knew that it was not ensuite. With double glazing the noise of the late night bar did not bother us.

    Breakfast not served until 8.30 am, which meant 8.45 so we missed the start of the conference each day. On Saturday the chef came late and breakfast was not served until about 9.10am.

    Clean room.

    Staff did not appear to have any record of our internet booking. Incredibly noisy until early hours. Had to queue for bathroom with intermittent hot water (and had someone rapping on the door telling me to hurry up after two minutes in the shower). "Continental Breakfast" did not come with a croissant.

    "We were fairly warned about the noise from the music and that was not terribly uncomfortable. The location for Cambridge was absolutely perfect and we loved the ambiance of the street and students. Tiny, narrow stairs are to be expected in such facilities and I consider that one of the expected and treasured experiences of England!" (107798468)

    Charming and convenient location. Very helpful staff. Comfortable room. Even shared facilities were large, clean, and accessible.

    Stairs are tricky with luggage, but our young staffer was gracious in helping us with our bags. The password protected locked doors to the rooms were complicated and confusing at first, but friendly staff were most helpful.

    Very, very noisy. The small print advertises a DJ playing until 3am on Friday and Saturday nights. There was also a DJ playing until 2am on Thursday night. We were staying on the very top floor and we could still hear the DJ enough to identify the songs that were playing.

    There was no system to see if anyone was already using the toilet facilities, so had to go up and down stairs quite a few times.

    Clean, good rooms and a lovely breakfast. Slightly inconvenient shared bathrooms.

    Staff were disorganised on check-in and couldn't find one room key. Music went on til 3am and the hotls is in a very noisy on-street location.

    It's piratically in the city center, so its close to shops and restaurants. Breakfast was okay, and overall it was quite good for a two night stay.

    During fridays and maybe the weekends, they have a DJ that comes in to play music all the way to 3 am in the morning. It didn't bother me that much though.

    Location -- Very Central

    This should not be a B&B during weekend periods , quite simply , the noise from the bar until 3am is something you can live with ( the decription mentions a DJ until early hours) , however , straight after the music stops after 3am -- staff are clearing away , the noise incredible along with laughing and shouting outside the pub . As soon as the clear up , the recyle lorry arrives & unload hundreds of bottles into the lorry right outside the B&B . You finally get to sleep around 5.30am . The room was small & cramped No parking facility Quite simply , this is a night spent under the pillow with fingers in your ears . other slumber deprived guests stand on the stairwells in the middle of the night moaning to each other about the noise and the thin walls . Those of you reading this may think we have a problem with noise -- We had just been to a concert at the local Corn exchange -- a Rock concert !!! -- The Castle Pub is decibels above anything the Corn Exchange has seen .

    "I don't think the Castle should advertise itself as a B&B----it's a bar that just happens to have rooms available upstairs. Felt like being in a college dormitory. Not worth the money. Would rather pay a bit more and stay somewhere nicer, cleaner, quieter." (107152986)

    Breakfast was fairly good.

    Not a secure facility. Doors with "key codes" either did not work or did not lock, and were basically open to the public in the bar downstairs. Bathrooms were dirty. Staff was slow to help those staying at the hotel---people buying drinks in the bar were helped first, which is totally unacceptable. Suggested parking nearby was expensive and a far walk with luggage, but there was no loading zone out front. Very inconvenient for travellers.

    "On it's own the B&B is fine, considering higher-spec places in the local area charge significantly more. However, when you experience it in conjunction with the disco-bar downstairs it fails for the simple reason that you can't get much sleep. " (108087565)

    Basic but clean. Very central location. Staff warm, friendly and courteous. Good breakfast.

    We got less than 3 hours sleep due to the disco/bar downstairs that had a dj and rowdy crowds until 3.30am. The Castle is trying to squeeze two businesses into one space: a popular disco-bar immediately below a B&B business. Not surprisingly, you don't get much sleep if you're a B&B customer. Also, throughout the booking process it was not explicit that none of the rooms were ensuite. Washing someone else's vomit out of the shower in the morning was not ideal...

    convenient location

    - The advertised internet access was not provided. Apparently they ran out of coupons and didn't manage to get them during our entire stay. No compensation (even after multiple requests) was provided. - Our request for having breakfast 30min early was not rejected outright.

    Quality of food was excellent, decor and look and feel of hotel was very good, staff were very helpful and friendly.

    Stairs would be an issue for elderly or disabled, room TV needs tuning in to main stations, check room cream sachets (one was off) and small packet of biscuits would have been a nice touch. Shared bathroom an inconvenience (especially for toilet at night) but acceptable for the price (just). breakfast service a little slow and could have done with starting at 8am rather than 8.30am for business travellers.

    The breakfast hours are too late. Do not tidy the beds. Do not clean cups in rooms after usage. Too noise even during 4am.

    No information given that there would be a DJ from 10 pm - 3 am. Two washrooms between several rooms - totally inadequate Not even a shaver plug in the room or washrooms. Breakfast poor quality food.

    Clean nicely decorated room, central location

    Quite expensive for a room that doesn't have an ensuite bathroom. No shampoo or complimentary items, so make sure you bring your own. Very noisy at night.

    Room small, clean but basic. Shared Bathroom recently refurbished. Within easy walking distance of the central colleges - no worry about drink driving, taxis etc. Didn't get back to room until 0600, slept in until 1015. Came down at about 1045 to leave and was asked whether we wanted breakfast (included) - had assumed it would have finished much earlier, but being restaurant as well, was available until 1130, so pleasant surprise, including an excellent cappuccino style coffee, which I badly needed! Polite helpful cheerful European staff more than made up for any lack of more than basic facilities.

    No en-suite rooms and only one shared serviceable bathroom, however a second was being fitted out - a bit of a problem with a number of others probably preparing for the same night out, however in the event it wasn't a big issue at least not for us. We found it without too much difficulty, through good luck rather than good navigation (I had printed out a map) having negotiated the oneway system and roadworks. Parking in Cambridge always a potential nightmare and no hotel parking. We knew this and planned for it. Others had probably discounted this place for that reason, however in the event their loss was our gain. Unloaded in loading bay a hundred yards past hotel and then I went and parked the car about 20 minutes picturesque walk away on a residential street to west of the river for free. Didn't fancy paying NCP overnight rates! Absence of decent convenient mirrors in rooms a bit of a nuisance. I was a bit nervous about fire escape, as the place is a bit of a warren and one section of staircase was completely blocked by decorating equipment, albeit it did not appear to be part of the fire escape route. Plenty of signage, but did not appear to be illuminated, don't know whether this is required. In the event our room was quite close to an escape out onto the roof, so I was re-assured.

    The staff was courteous, rooms were kept clean, the bed was comfortable and the location was very central.

    My stay was on a Saturday & Sunday evening when the DJ & nightlife was active until after 3am (Saturday). Having a room above the bar overlooking the main street, be aware of the acoustics. The fire alarm (faulty?) also went off numerous times while there during the day. There was only one bathroom/shower available for the guests at the time (although very clean), however I believe there are plans to have another one completed soon.
