  "An excellent weekend spoilt by a staff rudness and misguided understanding of rules. Our weekend was spoilt by certain staff who were insensitive when refusing to serve us. Embarrasing our family and fellow diners. Staff who clearly like quoting Health and Safety whilst not fully understanding the act fully. " (107423426)

  The deputy manager, who was on duty on our arrival and Manager along with the head housekeeper were friendly and welcoming. We had previously enquired as to dog friendliness as we puppy walk for Guide Dogs and currently are walking a 9 month German Shepherd. Our retired guide dog was also made welcome. As our son lives in Helensburgh arrangements had been made in advance for an evening meal. Breakfast the following morning was good and served by the deputy manager who was very efficient. The dogs lay , as they are trained do, quietly and unobtrusively at the side of the table.

  Sunday evening we arranged to meet our son at the hotel for an evening meal. He placed an order for a bottle of red wine and 2 soft minerals. We joined him and were approached by a young female bar worker who enquired about the dogs. Some time later a male bar tender asked us to leave the premises. I informed him we were residents and he refused to serve us. Other customers at this stage were quite incensed and offered their support. I requested a refund, which I received and the telephone number of the managing director or other management. I was given a card with a number handwritten on the back. The number turned out to be a rental firm. We travelled to the Commodore Hotel. We were greeted in a friendly manner and the dogs were given chilled drinking water, after we had inqured if they were acceptableand told them of our problem with your staff. Monday morning, our day of departure, we went down for breakfast and were told the dogs were not welcome. I explained they had been with us the previous morning with the Manageress's consent and was told, by the waitress "OH SHE WILL LET ANYONE IN" . For obvious reasons we won't leave the dogs unattended in our rooms, as was the suggestion nor will we leave them in the car for the duration of our breakfast, or take breakfast separately so again I requested a refund of the price of the breakfasts. As we were packing the car and departing the deputy manageress, arrived and we informed her of our experiences. She said we should have telephoned her. I informed her of my request for a telephone number. She was very upset regarding our treatment. At this stage the manager arrived. She was informed by of our treatment and she too was very apologetic and said it should not have happened and the staff in question needed speaking too as she was concerned for the hotels reputation.

  very helpful as there was an error in the booking which staff sorted quickly. breakfast was excellent.

  the outside of the hotel was a bit grubby and the decor in the room needed attention ie damp on the walls, bathroom a bit rough

  "This area is expensive for hotels. This one is reasonable value for a basic weekend stay. If you're after romance bring it with you." (107783926)

  Friendly, helpful staff. Huge breakfast. Largish room. Very easy to find. Largish free car park. Tea and coffee making facilities in the bedroom

  Thermostat no longer operational. Heating erratic. One door damaged. Poor reception on TV. No satellite, cable or DVD player. Pillows and beds rather hard

  Staff were very friendly and helpful on check in and throughout stay.

  Hotel needs some serious updating, as much as i love to watch Fawlty Towers, i would not want to stay there.

  Staff were very helpful and pleasant

  decor was quite poor,wardrobe door handle missing and bedlamp did'nt work

  "A very comfortable hotel in a perfect location. Breakfast was delicious and staff were very friendly." (97927441)

  Friendliness of staff. Location was idyllic. Good food.

  No hairdrier in bedroom.
