  This hotel was fantastic and may have costed a little more but was worth every penny we went to go to a friends sons 18th and nearly stayed in as our room was so nice the staff are lovely and the breakfast the following morning was outstanding

  "Interesting historic property. Convenient location on High St. that suited our purpose for an overnight stay. I would not stay at this hotel for an extended visit, however. One visit was sufficient." (108925382)

  Courteous staff, clean rooms

  The room I had (room 111) is a tiny, tiny room with a tiny twin/single-sized bed shoved next to a wall. The room itself is located in an exit hallway. The overhead light in the hallway was burnt out so at night, it was very difficult to find my way. In the morning, cleaning staff tossed laundry bags and garbage into the hallway for me to step over as I came through. My traveling companion was in a different room and we could not call each other or the front the desk - the telephones did not work. I did not have a washcloth in my room - only towels. The room is quite noisy due to the kitchen located below the window - banging dishes late into the evening and early morning made my stay rather unpleasant. We ordered a glass of red wine for dinner and it was undrinkable. It tasted as if it had been standing open and aging for quite some time. We sent it back.

  "Disappointed at mis-representation of availability of internet access, and existence of a moderate amount of dust in tea service. Friendly staff and solid cooking. " (107911891)

  The staff was very responsive and courteous, and the room was reasonably clean (though I did notice dust in the tea-service, which was a bit off-putting. I might suggest that instead of resetting the service after each guest leaves, you could simply remove the dishes and tea maker until the next guest *arrives*, thus ensuring fresh and clean dishes.)

  As a business traveler, it is important to me that I am able to stay connected to my business while I travel. Initially I selected the Castle Hotel because it seemed like a great place: extremely comfortably located, nice lodgings, and most important to me - wireless internet access. It is simply not feasible for me to try to carry out my usual business interactions at a library or a wireless cafe because I require 2-3 hours of internet connectivity per night, from my laptop, while I travel for business. That level of use at either of those locations honestly seems rude to me. I chose that Castle Hotel over several competitors in the area because of the statement that they had wireless service in the hotel. I was very dismayed to arrive and find that not only was the service down, but it had been down for several days - days before I'd made my reservation, time enough for them to have indicated somewhere on the website that the service wasn't available at the time. I felt that I had been misled. I understand that many hotels like the Castle Hotel want very much to retain their charm as historic locations, and I support that. I appreciated the candles lit hallways, the quiet Victorian lounge, and even the creaky floor had a certain appeal. However, one commodity that will become increasingly important to many travelers is some kind of internet connectivity. The staff was helpful in pointing me to a public library, from which I was at least able to communicate with some co-workers, but it wasn't quite the level of accessibility that I needed.

  "Room comfortable and clean, breakfast very enjoyable, staff pleasant, hotel atmosphere very good." (107690066)

  Lovely hotel,small and perfectly formed! We ate in the restaurant with our family who we were visiting, we all throughly enjoyed our food

  The only criticism would be the noise on the street at night as we had a room at the front of the hotel, however there is little the hotel could do about that.

  "Very comfortable and enjoyable. The Hotel blends in superbly well with the quaint feel of the town. A tremendous feel of History about everything." (107518240)

  Food was excellent and the hotel was full of character and very tasteful. I was here on business but it felt like I was on holiday!
