"We had a lovely stay and would happily stay again." (107977816)
The bar area had a lovely patio area which caught the evening sun so we could sit outside and admire the beautiful views of the countryside, good food on the Friday night, very peaceful: really felt like we were "getting away from it all".
We ordered a paper for the morning but neither morning did they deliver it to our door (although the hotel welcome pack in the room claimed they would) and on the Sunday morning they didn't even have it at reception. The food was lovely on the Friday night but was not as good on the Saturday night and was quite pricey considering.

"After reading previous reviews of the hotel we were pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Although the hotel bedrooms were slightly dated it was clean, tidy and well presented." (107701644)
Great location, friendly staff.

"We enjoyed our stay immensely for the hotel's historic value and as a centre from which to explore the local area. A wedding reception on the evening we visited appeared to overwhelm the resources of the hotel at one point and ours might not have been the most representative of stays. Nevertheless, although the hotel itself is lovely and has immense potential, it appears a little tired and worn (example cracked basin in ensuite). It has the air iof once being a class-leader but, unfortunately, we felt much of the competition has caught up moved ahead." (107550876)
Fabulous location, ample public areas, warm welcome at reception, most staff very friendly and helpful.
We had booked an executive double room but were given a standard double due to a wedding reception which would disturb the original room chosen. We were told bill was already reduced appropriately and accepted that the move was sesible but the original cost appeared on bill at check out until pointed out by us. A large number of smokers congregated around main entrance of the hotel in the evening. Unwarmed plates for cooked breakfast. Most staff at breakfast extremely attentive but appeared quite inexperienced.

"had a lovely stay not cheap but enjoyable and would have no hesitation in staying again and would recommend to anyone." (107808464)
have waited 15 years to stay in this hotel because of its location, and it was worth the wait.lovely stay fantastic food, lovely restaurant, good comfy bed wonderful views from all aspects of the hotel, happy helpful staff.
reading some other reviews you would think the place is falling down - not the case its a vast hotel and yes is in need of some investment. worn carpets, tatty bathroom, sticking doors to rooms, filthy windows in corridoors (when opened) bar price bit high, bit pricey for the stay we had but as it was a special occasion. a bit tatty in places but we expected that having read some reviews but then some people are hard to please.

"The hotel is generally in need of refurbishment. That having been said, I have often found it to be the case with country hotels which aren't part of a chain (and I would choose these ahead of chain hotels because they have more character). I would revisit due to the grounds and location - but with some investment it could be a fantastic place to stay. I hope that it gets the investment because the building deserves it!" (107709799)
Stunning location and well kept grounds. The food in the restaurant was also of a fairly high quality (if a little too expensive). Also, on Sunday one of the staff was very helpful in locating a cork to allow us to take an unfinished bottle of wine home - a nice touch.
There were too few staff on Saturday (we spent 20 minutes waiting to get our room key back after a walk). The standard of repair and cleanliness (notably the tea and coffee container) was poor in some paces. Some of the staff were a little dour (although some were very helpful).
