A lovely drive up to a grand entrance and once inside we weren't disappointed as the reception area is steeped in history. The staff were all very friendly and extremely efficient. We stayed in the modern annex and had booked a twin and a double room, both were clean and well maintained, with modern bathrooms, air conditioning and all the little extras that make your stay special. The beds were firm and extra pillows and blankets were provided if needed. Breakfast was very good, mostly self service buffet but again extras could be ordered and the staff were friendly and polite. We didn't use the restaurant for dining so couldn't comment on that. The health club and spa is very modern and towels are provided when you sign in. We only used the pool area but again it was clean and well maintained, the water was a little cool but the children enjoyed it. We stayed at Crewe Hall as we were attending a function on the Sunday in the old part of the hotel, again the staff were great, nothing was too much trouble and the meal was good. Check out was as efficient as check in.

The only downside for me was the temperature of the pool.

Overall: A wonderful hotel in an idyllic setting. Perfect for any occasion and the ideal place to relax and enjoy the English countryside. I wouldn't have any hesitation is recommending this hotel, and would stay there again next time we visit that part of the country.  (108727632)

We were given exellent rooms for ourselves and elderly parents who needed easily accessible accommodation. Couldn't have been made any more comfortable.

The main old building has a wonderful atmosphere. The carvings and old wood panelling is fantastic. For peace and quiet visit the small chapel or walk in the grounds. We were in the new wing so our large well equipped bedroom overlooked the old hall. Dinner was well presented and tasted wonderful, taken in the modern brasserie. Staff were very friendly and happy to show us round the old hall.

Our tissue box was not refilled for the second day. The complimentary botle of water did not appear until the morning we were leaving. The dining room in the old hall was not open on either of the evenings of our stay. When sitting in the brasserie beside the bar, we were cold as the outside sliding door caused the inside door to stay open which in turn made a cold draught.

Overall: A wonderful experience giving a historical 'going back in time' feel.  (107646767)

Great to hear piped music at front of hotel, helpful breakfast staff, good idea to have extra key in room keeping room warm.

Pain in the neck with the lower bar shut and having to go to main bar after hours.

Overall: Very pleasant, would have paid extra for less of a walk to new wing!  (107558135)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
