on arrival at the sun hotel on saturday the 19th of september , we met the receptionist , who was a credit to the hotel , she allowed me and my son kevin , store our bikes in the hotel , as the chief had his bike stolen , and the receptionist felt , that it wasnt worth the risk leaving the bikes outside in the hotel yard , we had a very good meal in the hotel in the evening , and the service was very good indeed , the breakfast on sunday morning was of a very high standard , with a very good selection , including fresh fruit , the full english breakfast was served nice and hot , with toast , and coffee and tea .

me and my son stayed in room 33 , which overlooks the main street , it was very noisy until after 12.00am , due to local bars , and noisy people talking in the street , we did have a leak problem in the bathroom , i think the toilet was leaking , i tried to report the fault , to a member of staff on sunday morning in reception , but there wasnt anybody on the desk .

Overall: both me and my son kevin enjoyed our stay at the sun hotel , we enjoyed our evening meal , and the breakfast on the sunday morning , apart from the noise in the street , i think next time we would request that we do not have room 33 again .  (108612400)

The position of the hotel was excellent for our purposes. Car parking so close to the town centre meant we could rest from driving.

Cleanliness didn't seem important, the bathroom would benefit from a thorough scrub. The corridors upstairs had a general air of neglect. We also found the internal en-suite with no window or extractor had a musty smell.

Overall: We enjoyed our stay but having a daughter and son in the accommodation industry, I found I was looking at things from my daughter's perspective.  (108198226)

The building of the Sun Hotel is full of history and I really enjoyed staying in such a typical hotel.

The doors in the corridors were banging continuously. The tech-spring should be changed.

Overall: I would recommend this hotel that is very central in Hitchin.  (107754340)

Overall: Could have had some help with luggage although I did refuse help on arrival as I had no idea it was a long walk to the room. Very noisy early in the mornings. Sunday morning I was awakened at 5.45am with, I assume, cleaners pushing plastic trolleys full of empty bottles across the cobbles!!  (107631374)

Clean, adequate for what was needed: Free Wi-Fi throughout premises, which was excellent, helped pass the time while I waited for the street outside to quiten down!

Fire doors did not close quietly; rooms at front of hotel very noisy, did not get quiet in street until 2.30 am! That's the penalty you accept if you book a the last minute?

Overall: Pleasant surroundings, nice breakfast, pleasant staff. I would stay here again, but insist on a quieter room!  (107926213)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
