The bedroom and bathroom were good size, well equipped. Spa bath was a bonus.

Stains on ceiling. bad TV reception

Overall: Staff not informed enough about package deals. Alton Towers tickets were included in package, however receptionist, at first, was only going to give us adults tickets. Staff also quite rude and impolite in dining room on 2 out of 3 mornings stating childrens breakfast not included but stated they would waiver cost as we had not been clearly informed about this by reception. We later checked at reception and they confirmed what we already knew, that breakfast was included. For guests whose breakfast is not included feel £10 per head very excessive - meals and toast only warm and had to ask for coffee - very average. Fire alarm also went off at 11.10 pm and no information given at reception on way out whether this was a false alarm, fire drill, or real fire!! Overall: accommodation - good, staff - not very helpful, location - okay as long as you have a car.  (1394607)

excellent buffet breakfast, comfortable spacious room, friendly staff

no bad points!

Overall: Before arriving at this hotel i didn't have high expectations as it was the cheapest hotel i had found and i therefore expected something pretty basic. However i was pleasantly surprised when we arrived! The check in staff were very friendly and efficient. Our room was lovely, clean, big bed, nice bathroom. The next morning we were surprised again at breakfast to find a help yourself buffet with hot food as well as several cereals and fruits. We booked the alton towers package and had no problem collecting the tickets from reception and it enabled us to beat the queues at the park as we didn't need to queue for tickets. I would definatley recommend this hotel!  (1426352)

Excellent value for money, incorporating tickets to the theme park and an impressive buffet breakfast into the price of the room. Service from the staff was also admirable. The bar offered cheap drinks during the happy hour period in a welcoming environment.

If I had to be picky, the parking system wasn't very clear at first. Issue was soon cleared up by a member of staff though.

Overall: Would have been nice to know where to park as soon as we arrived. Also, it wasn't obvious what to do when we entered the restaurant for breakfast. Both very minor issues though. Overrall, value for money was excellent and couldn't have asked for more. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was more than adequate for the price payed. Would definitely look to stay again the next time I want to visit Alton Towers!  (1469474)

A warm welcome, and decent service. The breakfast was lovely - with lots to choose from. Would stay again.

Room on 3rd floor a little cold, but this was quickly resolved by hotel staff who supplied us with a heater.

Overall: Good stay. Great value for money.  (108921745)

Attentive staff (especially in dining room & the cleaning ladies). Good size rooms -- it is a very large mid-Victorian building. Food was very good & excellent value for money!

Internet access not working during our 4 night stay. Parts of hotel need refurbishment (looks as if some of this has started)

Overall: Have read some poor comments by recent guests & can only imagine they expect 5 star standards! My wife & I have stayed at far more expensive hotels around the world which have not been up to this standard.  (108988243)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
