Hotel setting was wonderful; ideal location for exploring Sussex. Excellent directions and parking, room etc. were excellent. We chose not to eat in the hotel restaurant.

Staff were charming but everything took hours and there seemed no real organisation. We asked for a cream tea on the terrace - half an hour later people who had arrived after us had been served. The next morning we ordered a cooked breakfast - again, people who arrived ten minutes after us had their coffee and toast in minutes - we had nothing until after 20 minutes we asked. Our breakfast took 40 minutes. No individual waiter was responsible for our table and the whole thing seemed very hit and miss. Exactly the same story when we went onto the terrace that evening for a drink - it took 15 minutes for a waiter to come and then an incredibly long time for two drinks to be poured and delivered. We loved the hotel and the staff were charming but it was just not run efficiently. The contrast with an incredibly busy lunchtime in Alfriston where despite apologies in advance from waiting staff for potential delays, our order was taken with in 5 minutes and our drinks brought immediately. This would deter us from coming again and we would tell any other potential visitor that we experienced a poor level of service.

Lovely surroundings/ restful atmosphere`

Breakfast service slow,waited ver thirty minutes for poached eggs! Wine was not accurate or up to date. Ordered a 1998 wine and was presented with a 2005 - I noticed the wine waiter hadnot. The next wine I ordered was not in stock.The list was not subseqently updated. Food was reasonable - not excellent.

Beautiful grounds and building. Staff service was outstanding. Food quality and service were very fine.

Room lighting, especially bedside lamps, very poor. Also, access to electrical sockets was poor--had to get on the floor under the desk to unplug something in order to use a curling iron near the mirror.

Friendly staff and good atmosphere

The quality of the food at the function we attended was not at all good.
