Good hotel friendly staff

Default setting on website gives current day and I did not get prompted to put in my required reservation date which was actually a week later. So I mistakenly booked for the night I made the reservation. Consequently I got a call from the hotel the following morning to be told we were no-shows and therefore being billed for the 169 pound package. We tried to explain it was an error and compromise by paying the room charge only since the consumables (champagne, chocolates and dinner for 2) would be at no cost to the hotel. Or book the room only for the correct date and have the extras added on then. I pointed out that the fact the booking wasn't made until 30 mins after the restaurant had closed should have flagged a problem, but the manager refused to speak to me, conducting his comments through the receptionist. He also told me our grievance is with the booking agent and not the hotel - although your subsequent email advised us this was not the case since the hotel takes the credit card charge.

Although short staffed, the stay was enjoyable and we look forward to our next visit.
Reception was not attended on arrival and we had to find a member of staff to book in.
Overall: The staff did their best to make our stay enjoyable and the chef provided an excellent menu. The bedroom was comfortable and the wardrobe space was excellent. (108656839)
