The people are very well mannered.

1. We can hear people upstairs walking in his / her room. No sound proof. 2. The shower is obsolete. It is too high above our head and not flexible. 3. No free water.

Modern, clean, relaxed establishment with genuinely thought-provoking room design ideas. Top staff who really know what time it is...

Overall: Loved the design simplicity and minimalist feel of the hotel. A very relaxed ambience pervades the whole place which, after a busy week at work, certainly helped to chill us out - along with the rum based cocktails. The room was excellent, big soft bed that the wife loved (a little to soft for me). Not an intuitive room temperature adjustment process, but we got there.... Bathroom was a great and welcome surprise, large with huge bath and plenty of excellent smellies to experiment with. The shower was a blast - literally and figuratively speaking. The staff were excellent, with a full understanding of the 'service' concept. I'll probably book again for Madam's birthday next year. Thanks to all at HH Donovan Blair  (99260539)

keen to stay at the Hempel as such good and exclusive reputation, and public parts of hotel as gorgeous and stylish etc as we had expected.

Room small - and it wasn't their most basic standard room but a Double Delux - bath plug stuck and hand held shower attachment didn't work.

Overall: Needed to see more about the level of room we were given - found room disappointing after pictures online. Room not big - had no view at all as on the fifth floor and behind the building's parapet, but peaceful on a saturday night in central london with window open. Loved fact of being at the Hempel - but don't need to go again.  (99697266)

The hotel was spotless and very clean. The size of the hotel was spectacular once inside and the decor was beautiful

Our air conditioning did not work and it was one of the hottest days of the year so far. The door to the bathroom was very small and I felt as though I had to tuck my arms in before I went through! We had a balcony although we faced a bricked wall for our view. When I complained about the air con the staff bought up a air con unit which was quite loud when switched on. When I complained about this in the morning, I had a response of a chrug and oh yes. No apology!

Overall: For the price of the hotel, I was not overall impressed. Although the decor and design was fab, the staff were not that great and I felt as though we were left to fend for ourselves when the air con failed to work during one of the hottest nights of this year. I heard mixed reviews about this hotel before booking but thought it might be worth while considering we were only staying the one night. I booked the hotel as I was taking my boyfriend for a night out on his bithday, and although the night was great, we came back to a very hot and uncomfortable room. The entrace into the bathroom was very small and I was worried about catching my elbows every time I walked through. Luckly I am quite small, but for an individual who may be of a bigger size may not appreciate the tightness of the doorway. We had a balcony which faced the back of another building. Although the hotel is rated as 5 star, it would only give it 3 in my book. I would not stay again for the price we paid.  (3305053976)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
