The bed was extremely comfortable and the room very clean

The televsion had only 1 channel of football and no remote. The plumbing was very loud.

Overall: We had a great night. Unfortunately, although the hotel was very peaceful, we had guests next door who decided to have a very loud discussion from 6am onwards! ending in much shout and verbal abuse.  (108930668)

Extremely friendly and capable staff, esp. in Dukes' Bar on the Friday night. Amanda was an extremely good hostess!

Broken reading light over bed in room - as it was only an overnight stay, did not report.

Overall: As a general point - the style of decor requires an urgent rethink. The use of fringed lightshades, et c, combined with low-wattage light sources and unfortunate angles gave everything a "yellow" cast, esp in the bathroom. Light and shadow reflecting through the lightshade fringes cast dark lines of irregular shadow on the walls and fittings, giving a wholly false visual impression of dirt and neglect. In natural light everything was perfectly and uncomplainably clean - in the artificial light provided, you just were not doing yourselves any favours! Just go into the bathroom after darek, switch the light on, and ask what sort of an impression you are (unwittingly) giving out.. it took me a while to figure out that the streaks of "dirt" and "cobweb" I was seeing on the walls were a trick of poor light, and no adverse reflection on your cleaning staff! Surely lighting should make a room look clean and spacious - if it only succeeds in making it look (unfairly) dirty and dingy, you have a problem? Also, television reception was not of the greatest quality and you only seemed to have the standard range of terrestrial channels available. With the digital switchover imminent, this is another area you should be paying attention to. (if nothing else, digital TV allows a choice of radio channels - great for those who want to wake up to Radio Two in the morning!) But a very central location and very good value for the price - we would come back, certainly. Please accept remarks made here as constructive criticism!  (107945185)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
