The history of the place & it's location

It is an old hotel & it's beginning to show.

Overall: Our room was decidedly shabby & the subsidence meant that whole room was on a tilt, making just being in there uncomfortable. The bar & dining area's were very pleasant however & if our breakfast was anything to go by, the cuisine was fine as well. The price we paid via your web site was a fair reflection of the amenities. I would have been far from impressed if I had paid the published hotel tariff.  (1669778)

We were upgraded to a suite which was a very pleasant surprise and much appreciated

A couple of tiles above the sink were cracked and loose (Rm 142)

Overall: Staff very pleasant and helpful. Hotel location for my needs was excellent. Good checking in/checking out service. Breakfast choice OK but ran out of melon at 8.45 am and not replenished. Had to park in furthest overflow carpark at 9.30 pm and as it was dark couldn't see the muddy puddles! Overall a pleasant stay and would definitely use again or recommend to others.  (1337347)

Very good breakfast

Hotel had worn look

Overall: An excellent hotel and reasonably priced. People on Reception were very good even though we had to wait 45 minutes for access to room. Provided with complimentary drinks while waiting. Room was drafty, but overall it was comfortable. I would have expected a little more publicity on the Agatha Christy stay but alas nothing much except a plaque (maybe I missed the Agatha room) I will stay at the hotel again.  (1448951)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
