Friendly, smiling and informative staff.
Breakfast was not value for money as it seemed to be sitting out for quite a while. This does not constitute freshness. I don't believe buffet 'hot' breakfast is good enough in 3star accommodation and upwards. Staff in evening bar were extremely slow to wait on us. We had to catch their eye for a drink, catch their eye for food and catch their eye to get the bill. In the end, the manager came and cleared our plates away. Also, my husband and I were upgraded to a superior room, for which we were very grateful. However, our guest had a room which I could only account as 'staff quarters'. This was rather embarrassing when our guest came to view our bedroom.
Overall: I was very disappointed in this hotel overall. I deemed the rate excessive - I know August is the best month for accommodation in Edinburgh if you are the owner - but fleecing people is another thing. This is not value for money. The staff were extremely polite, smiling and informative but attention to detail, in a hotel of this quality, should be reviewed on a regular basis. (1330231)

Quiet location, with excellent bus service to city. Rooom comfortable, with good outlook. Internet connection and breakfast variety excellent. A minor point, but a good example of staff quality, the fried eggs at Friday's buffet were beautifully cooked - much better than those that had been cooked individually at previous accommodations.
Must have been a different cook at the weekend - fried eggs were so hard that they should have embarrassed the staff! Constant problems with electronic room keys. No hotel airconditioning on very hot day. We were on the third floor, but lift only reaches the second floor.
Overall: We would strongly recommend this hotel for its location, facilities, and the efficiency of its operation. Only three miles from the CBD, it provides a good alternative to a hotel in the city centre, which is currently (and disappointingly) in complete disorder. Excavations along the entire length of Princes Street, the heart of the city, will probably render it out of action for the next year or two. (107373338)
Overall: Great Hotel but would have liked it a little bit more the centre but never mind as bus service was very regular (107717423)
Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.
Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.
All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.
48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
