The room was lovely although a bit small. Room was very well decorated and had all the little niceties of toiletries etc. The breakfast was delicious.

We asked several times for a menu but it was not ready to look at until mid afternoon, when it was finally produced there were no prices on it. There was no lift and the plugs kept tripping in the room.

Overall: It was ok but Nairn is not the best place to stat as it has only one restaurant which is expensive but the food is very good.  (108612586)

Friendly, helpful staff. Clean and tidy throughout. Quiet and comfortable.

Heating did not work in room although corridors were warm. Water pressure was very low so difficult to have a shower. TV channels limited and remote did not work.

Overall: Enjoyed the stay in this restful old building close to stunning sea views, towns and landscapes.  (108724377)

Location was good. Bathroom appeared to have recently been renovated and was of a very good standard.

First impression upon arrival, dirt and litter appeared to have been swept from kitchen into rear-entrance hallway and not picked up. Lift was very old and seems to need maintenance to reduce creaking noises and very rough operation. Room window opened towards another external wall (only a couple of metres away) which reflected heat, blocked any breeze and required curtain to remain closed to avoid looking into the room of people in adjacent building. Due to lack of airflow and heat on day of arrival we requested a pedstal fan as advertised in our room's Windsor Hotel Directory but Reception advised us they don't have any fans (fan was later provided after our phone call to Active Hotels). TV remote didn't work, reception could not provide replacement nor did they offer to investigate what was wrong with the remote. We asked to speak to the Manager however male reception staff member said he was the only person available - perhaps he was the Manager but this was not clarified for us. Floor in breakfast dining room was unswept bare cement, there was a dried crust of bread under our table and a napkin and coaster under other tables in our area. In another corner there were clumps of matted dust and debris on the floor and the ledge next to our table was covered with dust. One toaster was not working effectively and when I removed the bread to put it into the second toaster I noticed a chunk of thick green plactic was melted into the space under the bread. A staff member came at my request to remove the plastic and was going to insert a fork into the still turned-on toaster to remove the plastic. I expressed my concern for her safety (metal fork and electricity) so she turned the toaster off but still couldn't remove the object. Another man (perhaps Manager) came and dug out the plastic with two knives. Our cooked breakfast order was taken as soon as we entered and was served almost immediately. The staff could see we had just collected our cereal and juice but didn't offer to put the hot food into a warmer until we finished our cereal, hence our breakfast was cold when we were ready to eat it.

Overall: General feeling was that staff were unable to resolve problems so did not wish to enter into any discussion with us about our concerns. We were unable to confirm if the man at reception was in fact the Manager, but no-one in authority was made available for us to speak to about our concerns. The local Visit Scotland Information Centre advised they had received a similar complaint about the Windsor Hotel a couple of days before our visit. Another guest advised she had repaired the toilet herself as she had no confidence that a staff member would be able to assist her.  (108955584)

Good location close to the centre. Has character.

Restaurant had been flooded so carpets were up and no evening meals. Reception desk unmanned and twice required more than one ring of the bell to attract attention. Door did not shut easily (205 room) cleaners left the door unlocked after cleaning with all our stuff inside - nothing taken! Kippers for breakfast on the menu but were unavailable on the Sunday.

Overall: For the facilities available it was over priced at £110 per night double. If it was lower season price would stay again  (107455036)

exterior garden was nice and well kept. room was lovely and fresh

staff were rude and not very helpful checking in (night staff). When going for dinner we were left waiting for half an hour before service, just to be told they had ran out of roast. On coming down for breakfast at half past 8 we were told there was no bacon or mushrooms left. The breakfast i did have was the worst breakfast i have had in this country.

Overall: Staff could do with customer service training. There was also a laungage difficulty from some of your forgien staff. I feel that your hotel would be more inviting if you had more locals employed with some local knowledge.  (108542885)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
