Food was excellent

Because of wedding party, attention to other guests and accommodation was poor

Overall: My husband e-mailed the hotel from Nigeria and asked for a room up-grade we asked to change room twice and were still not satisfied with the room we eventually accepted. It took 30 mins in the restaurant for our order to be taken and there were only three parties in the dining-room. The management should not accept overnight guests whilst weddings are being held, as they clearly cannot cope.  (1627473)

The double room was very good. Spacious and comfortable.

There was very little about the hotel itself in the literature

Overall: We were welcomed by a very friendly receptionist and after we signed in we were given the instructions to find our room. The room was lovely, plenty of space and nice decor. The bathroom was large and well equiped. We liked the relaxed atmosphere whilst still maintaining a great standard. Cammies bar where we had a meal on the 1st night was ok and the meal was absolutely super. The following night we went to the Dining room and whilst the atmosphere there was excellent, the staff very attentive, the food superb, we felt the cost was quite a bit more than in Cammies bar and twice the price. Yes you are paying for the lovely ambience of the dining room and I would still go to the dining room for a special occasion as it was this time but the food in Cammies was every bit as good. We found the wine quite expensive. After our meal in the dining room we went to the Drawing room for Brandies and coffees and sat with the log fire roaring up the chimney and read our papers. Quite splendid. I am notsure it would be enough for younger couples but certianly if you like good standards and yet a relaxed atmosphere it would be perfect. The souroundings were also very beautiful.  (1594367)

Size of room, comfort of bed, service and friendliness of staff.

Room decor and general condition of decor in corridors- although it is an old building, the decor could have been in better condition- paper was peeling off walls in our room and some parts of corridors, some of it looked dated, not inkeeping with the age of the building.

Overall: Good- nice location, comfy bed and good facilities.  (107727650)

convenient for airport and main roads - lovely building with interesting features and beautiful gardens - breakfast was good - pool and spa very good

our bath was badly marked and kettle very slow - some of the decor in need of refurbishing

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
