lovely surroundings,nice pool,lovely garden restaurant,friendly staff

empty mini-bar!

Overall: stayed for overnight stopover at end of holiday prior to flying home following morning.lovely comfortable bed, pool great, air con useful.Disappointed by empty mini-bar/lack of tea coffee facilities but I'm sure items would have been brought if requested.Access to internet useful for checking in of flights night before, would have been useful to have a printer connected to print tickets.Left a bag in the taxi and both taxi firm and receptionist very kind and efficient in effecting its return.Nice hotel.  (3304880595)

The bathroom shower is not affixed to the wall which makes morning showering very difficult

Overall: This is not a four star hotel but it does provide what you pay for. It is very convenient for the centre of Montpelier if you have your own transport. It has its own eccentric charm even though the decor is getting rather worn. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it to anyone wanting reasonably priced accomodation in a friendly, well run hotel.  (3304205586)

Information about the hotel, restaurant or local area could be put in the rooms. Drink making facilities and hair dryer counld also be put into the rooms.

Overall: For a 3 star hotel I found it to be poor quality. There were no drink making facilities in the room, no hair drier and we only found out by chance that breakfast could be served in the room. There was no information in the room about the hotel, restaurant or local area. Compared to other accommodation in the area I found the quality to be very poor  (3304277389)

The unusual design of this hotel is appealing and we found the room surprisingly quiet. We only used the hotel as a base and did not take meals. We would stay there again.

The decorative standard of the common areas could be improved but we found everywhere clean and tidy.

Overall: We believe we received value for money. We fortunately hired a car which we feel you need here as it is not city centre. This is a hotel to use as a base for sight seeing rather than a holiday in itself. The garden is attractive and another unusual feature. Quiet, well serviced rooms. Balcony is really communal access to an external walkway but a pleasant feature because we were at the end.  (2836784)

Atmosphere and old world feeling

Shower could be better Stairs carpet ditto

Overall: It would be a good idea if a location map was attached to the e-mail. The restaurant was excellent, I rarely eat in the hotels that I stay in, this was a pleasant surprise. Coffee making in the room would be useful.  (2773454)

Attractive building & very well maintained grounds. Pleasant food, restaurant had a good ambience. Excellent staff, including the resident dog! Good location, rural feel yet accessible.

New carpets throughout & total redecoration & remove the bat poo on the balcony!

Overall: On arrival the hotel looks charming, beautiful building, well kept gardens with an aviary & a lovely secluded pool. It was nice to have a relaxing spot that felt as if you were in the countryside but only 10 mins from the city centre. However(!) the general decor of the hotel is in need of modernisation, the carpets are grim & the paintwork tired. I wouldn't bother paying extra for a balcony; you have to share it with at least 3 other rooms. I love nature but we also had to share our corner balcony with a large family of bats! Now, I don't mind bats, except when they dive-bomb you while you’re enjoying your nightcap & then poo all over the floor, walls, doors & any other available surface! For a 3 star (bottom end) hotel you can't complain as it has all you need, comfortable, excellent hospitable staff, good food, and great location. It just needs a good clean & decorating then it would be a top end 3 star hotel. If they were planning on redecorating in the near future then I would whole-heartedly recommend this hotel based on the location & excellent staff. It could be a truly fantastic hotel with these minor imperfections corrected.  (2717912)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
