Room very clean, staff very friendly

Restaurant closed, no seperate shower, bit expensive for a room 96 euro, especially when there was no chance of hot food in the evening. The reception was closed in the morning when I went to pay it opened at 7:45am I left the hotel at 7:15am for a business meeting.

It was charming and full of character. The rooms were spacious, with nice high ceilings, the separate bathrooms had good showers and sturdy fittings. It IS old and so is not luxurious. The views are lovely and it is near everything in the small town.

The dining room is big and has dim overhead lighting, so is really lacking in atmosphere and cosiness. A few lamps and candles on the tables would make a huge difference. The breakfast rooms were better. Breakfast was good for continental. Nice fresh bread and croissants even on Sunday.

Overall: I found it surprisingly good and well-appoined for a 3 star hotel. It certainly rates above other three stars I have stayed in in France (and even in villard-de-lans), but is more expensive than other three stars in the same town. I had read a couple of so-so reviews on it online and so was very favourably surprised with my own experience. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The bar was very quiet, but at least there is one. They have a nice big sitting room which only our family used. A great place for kids as there is loads of space for them. We played cards and board games at night and could get service from the bar or bring down our own snacks and drinks. The rooms have fridges which is a big plus and they will give you a kettle if you ask. There are tennis courts but you need your own rackets or I believe you can rent them in the town. There is a great swimming pool nearby with a big slide and wave-maker and an ice rink where you can rent skates and watch live hockey matches for free. Plenty car parking ouside.  (99620985)

The hotel is always very warm & welcoming as is the town. We love to open our windows wide to enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains and the fresh crisp mountain air.

My only suggestion would be to focus on catering to all ages. We have noticed that the hotel seems to attract a much older 65+ crowd and it would be nice if the hotel were a little more modernized. Breakfast kind of feels liek you are in a senior citizen center. Otherwise, we love the hotel and will come back next year for sure!

Overall: This is the third year in a row we have returned to Villard De Lans wer have stayed in the same hotel each visit and have had a wonderful experience. We love the town so much. The Hotel staff were extremely nice and accomodating. The rooms are always clean and fresh. It is a wonderful mountian getaway.  (2314906)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
