excellent food but exceptionally high prices
Most I have ever paid for a meal. 2 courses with a bottle of 'cheaper' wine cost 300 euros. room only cost 210 euro per night

The staff were delightful once the initial hiccups were rectified.
Our initial room was filthy and, although we did not request it, we were upgraded to a suite. The decor of the rooms was unbelievable - red shag-pile carpets, purple walls in the separate toilet, and in the bedroom, one wall was red, one was black and two were cream. It was lucky we did not have a hangover in the morning! The lavatory paper was dispensed in a one-sheet-at-a-time dispenser (like a motorway service station toilet). The shower-head shot red-hot water with the pressure of burning needles at a 45 degree angle and you had to spread-eagle yourself against the wall directly below the shower-head to get wet.
Overall: The dinner was very nice and highly creative served by well-trained and excellent staff who are more than happy to discuss the creations with you - it is a Michelin two star restaurant. We think that people generally go there to eat and not to stay in the hotel (otherwise they just might have to improve the decor or employ someone who is obviously not totally colour-blind). Restaurant closed when we stayed. We found this out after we had booked

The rooms were spacious.
We felt that the rooms were in need of a refurbishment and the cleanliness could have been a little better.
Overall: The hotel has much character but is not well placed if the purpose of the visit is to look around Reims. The hotel obviously has a very good reputation in it's restaurant and is presumably why people choose to stay there. It was not the reason our party chose it and we were disappointed that our attempts to get a drink in the bar before going out for dinner in town were made very difficult because the area had been set aside for a wedding party. Nobody at the hotel speaks very good English and I had to ask to see the Patron in order to get things sorted out since all of the other staff were point blank refusing to serve us a drink or even offering any suggestion where else we could go. We got the impression that the hotel accommodation side of the business is very secondary to the restaurant and if eating there is not the reason for visiting, then we would certainly look elsewhere next time.
