Rooms, staff, prices,
Overall: When we arrived at the hotel we pulled up into The car park of the hotel – it was night time and the lights from the car park lit up the hotel which looked great, immediately I thought I have made a good choice here (booked a weekend away for my partners birthday) on checking into the hotel the reception area was clean and the process was very straight forward. To get to our room we needed to go back outside and walk around the building to one of the outbuildings, on entering the outbuilding the hallway had been recently renovated and clean so everything was looking great, well our room was awful – for what we paid I expected a lot more for my money – the room suffered from damp issues and the wallpaper (which had been painted over with one coat) was bubbling in the corners, some of the wall paper was curling upwards and there was black mould underneath. The room was not in keeping with the outside of the building and I believe we would have had a nicer room if we stayed at a premier inn, the kettle was nowhere near a plug socket so had to move it across the room onto the floor to boil it and the bed was rock hard. I decided that this wasn’t good enough and so I went to reception and spoke to one of the staff who immediately gave me to key cards from two different rooms to go and have a look at – we chose a room that was too a much higher standard than our first room – even though the room still had its faults – we then moved our stuff and went back to reception where we spoke to a different member of staff (very friendly lady) who explained that the room we were now staying in was reserved for their premier members only and was 2 grades up from our first room and that because I hadn’t booked direct with their website “Petchey” we were not offered the option of rooms so we were allocated a standard room – even so I was lucky and had a discount on the room price because I went through a different website – if I had of paid the original room price for their “standard” room I would have asked for my money back regardless of the upgrade (after we complained). The restaurant food was nicely cooked but the waitress was very slow and we had dirty plates in front of us for about 30 minutes and there was only 2 other couples in their eating. The puddings were overpriced and not exactly the same as the description but overall we were happy with what we had eaten and the lady behind the bar was really friendly. (108747637)

surrounding scenery and asthethics were lovey.
Staff to guest Communication was very poor.
Attention to detail was lacking.
Overall: Overall, for 100GBP per night, we found our experience dissapointing. We found the Hever hotel a tad on par with Fawlty Towers, except we weren't laughing. In contrast to the immediate asthetics, the internal decor and layout was equal to that of a motorway lodge. A continental breakfast consisted of toast and jam,(very continental!!). This knowledge only became apparent when the kitchen phoned up and asked whether we wanted brown or white bread, (third call!!). I put a shirt in to be laundered and when we returned, we found the shirt, washed and very UN-IRONED, chucked on the sofa in a HEAP. we paid £7.00 for this service! Beds had been made and towels replaced, mmmm...impressive, only to turn around and find the breakfast dishes still remained all over the table, where we had left them. I put these outside our door and there they remained until we left a day later. Definately not impressed on any level with this hotel. (107671104)
Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.
Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.
All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.
48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
