Hotel and gardens perfect for a weekend break

Staff in dinning room a little slow and not up to standard for the class of hotel

The hotel was very clean and the staff were helpful when they were not too busy. I suppose that tells you that it is a popular place. The breakfast was fabulous and we really enjoyed our walk around the grounds and the resovior in the morning.

I had booked a double room but when we arrived we were allocated a twin. That was very disappointing, although the lady at reception did say that she would let us know if a double became available. It was most unfortunate that one didnt as my husband and I were looking forward to a nice evening away without children. We also tried to get a bite to eat in the Lounge. The time was 3.30. They advertised that they served food until 5 and had menues on the bar. When we asked for a sandwich, we were told that as they had weddings on, we may not be able to be served for at least 40 minutes. There was nobody else in the lounge at that time so I dont think they should say that they serve there until 5 if there are going to be problems. There was nowhere else to eat so we did wait for 30 minutes. It definately was'nt worth the wait,and the price for what we recieved was terrible. Although the breakfast the following day did make up for it.

Overall: Due to the unfortunate allocation of our room,our stay was'nt what we where expecting. I would stay again but I would double check, in fact tripple check, that we got what we were expecting. Although my husband and I arent as young as we once were, we do like to have a cuddle and the beds were on wheels!!!  (107344549)

Quiet, relaxing atmosphere, good quality food.

Poor TV reception in the room especially ITV (critical when the EUFA cup is on!).

Overall: My sort of hotel - stately home in the country, very nice room/bathroom, food well prepared although limited menu, long walk to the dining room but it is what you expect with this type of hotel and I need the exercise.  (107370968)

Good food, mostly very friendly and efficient staff, barman had a bit of along face at times. Good gym.

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
