The room was lovely, food and staff great.

There was only one towel and for the price of the room would have expected a hairdryer and normal sized t.v.

Overall: Relaxing  (108833068)

The hotel has a beautiful setting surrounded by trees and a river. There was ample free parking and it was very easy to find. Bedrooms were nicely decorated although bathroom needed refurbishment. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Evening meal in restaurant was good quality food, freshly cooked.

Drinks and food expensive. Booking was for a family and clearly stated two extra beds required but these were not provided. Eventually had to move rooms to one with two double beds at 9pm at night. Breakfast was awful. We ordered it in the room but it was nearly an hour late and the excuse was the chef couldn't get a bus due to a bus strike. Could no-one else do a continental breakfast? This was a planned strike which we had seen on the news the day before, the management should have made arrangements for their staff to get transport. It was also supposed to include croissants nad yoghurts and it was just very cold toast and no yoghurts, two dishes were dirty and the tea, milk and orange were all spilt in the tray. We complained and only paid a third of the price of the breakfast. Hotel was quite noisy with a lot of doors banging at night. There was an awful smell in the bathroom. No information about the hotel at all was provided in the room. Staff were very good at apologising, seemed to be used to it.

Overall: Beautiful building in lovely setting but ruined by poor management.  (108740767)

Bedroom decor. Good shower in bathroom.

Overall image of hotel is lack of care & attention - eg handplates on corridor doors were filthy. Towels provided were very poor - frayed & falling apart

Overall: Fair - the location is convenient to us because of proximity to family.  (107764776)

The room was spacious and clean and warm, and had everything needed for our two nights stay. The staff were friendly. Large car park. Situation convenient for our family visit.

Thought the hotel was expensive, also the bar, which had a limited choice of beers available.

Overall: Convenient for our visit, comfortable and relaxing, but pricey.  (107509610)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
