The room was clean and the bathroom was well appointed. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Very efficient cleaning staff.

The air conditioner didn't work despite my asking at reception twice to have it mended. It was boiling hot around Aix at this time (23rd-26th June) and our sheets and pillows were covered in sweat in the morning! I didn't think much of the food on offer in the hotel either - I didn't come to France to have onions rings! There should be much more choice of decent French food and wine. When you are stuck in the middle of the countryside, you like to be able to relax at your hotel and not worry about driving, but this was so awful that we had to go out. Also, it was a real shock to have to carry my luggage up 2 flights of stairs to my room.

Overall: I would book online again, but not before asking around as this was recommended as being the only possible hotel near Meyreuil (the other 2 ones nearby are meant to be seriously awful). I think it is a shame that Campanile let a couple of things spoil the stay. I understand that a lot of people like burgers and onion rings, but people's tastes have become more sophisticated and you could cater for both. I also think it is terrible to expect guests to climb a ghastly concrete spiral staircase with their baggage. This really brings the hotel down several notches and makes a v bad impression. The air conditioning problem was clearly a local one, and not due to the way the chain is run, and I think the owner was absent while I was staying and when he got back I informed him about it and he didn't look pleased at all. The overall appearance of the hotel was pretty awful too, as it looks like a cheap motel off the M1 (perhaps that is intentional, but our hearts sank when we arrived). All in all, not terribly impressed, although the cleanliness made it adequate.  (3304558339)

Friendly, excellent breakfast

Overall: As a stopover for one or two nights the accomodation was good; it would be a little cramped for longer.  (3304773894)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
