Fantastic location and a lovely hotel. Amazing food. We had the Taster menu with wine and whilst the portions were very much on the small side, the dishes were superb. The staff in the restaurant and the barmen were very helpful and polite, particularly the breakfast staff. The receptionist who checked us in was also very nice and attentive.

Disappointingly, the receptionist who was on duty on the Monday afternoon was not so helpful. Asking if she could get someone to come and serve at the bar, I was made to feel like I was interupting her. When after 20 minutes with no service I had to ask again, she was rather abrupt. I also overheard someone else complaining to her later that she hadn't passed on a request for coffee so I know it wasn't just me.

Overall: Thoroughly enjoyed it. The attitude of the 2nd receptionist only a minor blip on an otherwise perfect couple of days.  (107687884)

Very pleasant hotel in a lovely area of Yorkshire.The food was excellent and beautifully served.

We were very perturbed to find that the hotel had no record of our booking. Fortunately we had the confirmation with us. However, had the hotel been fully booked what would have been the consequence? It does not inspire much faith in the booking system.Moreover, we were put into a room at the far end of the hotel where there was no central heating. We had a portable heater but this is not what we expected from a four star hotel.

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
