Excellent restaurant, breathtaking views and peace and quiet. Also excellent leisure centre - pool and hot tubs.

Decor not quite perfect - the odd corner of peeling wallpaper, the odd light bulb not working. The bar never seems to be staffed. I thought the 'Maitre D's manner like that at McDonalds, i.e. saying all the things but with no sincerely. Apologies if this is just a mistaken impression.

Overall: Generally very good and worth the cost. It should be noted that the location is perfect in terms of the beach, but not for Woolacombe or Mortehoe, both of which are a longish walk away.  (108857085)

great location with wonderful views across the beach. good room, we were in one with a four poster bed. great bathroom with giant bath. clean tidy and well decorated. also very pleasant leisure facilities with pool, jacuzzi and steam room

the staff seemed very keen to repeat the fact that a jacket, shirt and tie were required for dinner, with jeans and trainers not being allowed which was very clearly worded on the web site. At the grand old age of 50 i feel capable of reading and appearing suitably attired without reminders. there was also a question as to whether i realised it was £36 each for dinner? having paid just under £500 for two nights B&B I felt it unecessary to question my abilty to pay. Having made more than one ref to the dress code it was interesting to note that 4 of the 6 couples dining near us all had jeans on? unfortunately the dinner itself was also dreadful. a very unusual menu selection was then delivered badly. our starter and main was fish and the menu stated boldly that all vegetables and dishes were lightly cooked. unfortunately both items had been overcooked, kept on a plate under a hot lamp and prepared before we had sat at our table. we asked the waitress to remove the main course without eating it and indicated that there was nothing else on the menu that was remotely appealing. the waitres was very surprised, said that she was surprised and indicated how unusual it was,. the plates went and we did not see another member of the restauarant team again for the whole evening. (not even to apologise let alone perhaps offer coffee?)it was also disapointing that the whole £72 was still on my bill when we checked out despite the receptionist being aware of our dissatisfaction. There was apparently no one on the hotel staff able to take responsibilty for offering a reduction in the cost. all complaints were required in writing to the hotel owner who is the only person who can make these decisions when she visits once a week? also there appeared to be lack of communication as i had been emailed directly by reception prior to travelling asking me if i wanted to book a table because they were busy. i replied, requested a table for 8 pm and received a reply saying that it had been made ( plus a reminder that no jeans were allowed and i must wear a jacket and tie) unfortunately no note had been made? perhaps we should have taken this as a sign

Overall: we had a great weekend as the location is excellent  (107858789)

The room was pleasant and spacious with a lovely sea view. Staff were eager to please and be helpful.

The evening meal was 3 courses at a set price with no other choice, eg 2 courses,- quite adequate for us. £36 a head not including wine was far too expensive for the standard of the meal provided. The lounge area whilst pleasant with superb sea views was set out in such a way that guests - especially on a cold winter's evening, were not easly able to sit together and chat. The lighting in the bedroom was so dim that it made reading very difficult.

Overall: I think it is a hotel - with the pool, hot-tub etc that probably attracts a younger age group than us and is more attractive in high season than mid winter.  (107939021)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
