Close to city center. Room was clean and neat.
Room was very small - even by European standards. Central location is on a very busy (and noisy) street.
Overall: We encountered some difficulties on check-in as the hotel did not seem to have a record of our online booking. However, they were not fully booked and so we were able to get a room. The hotel is on one of the main streets in Akureyri that is used at night time by a number of locals that love to drive motorcycles and muscle-cars. The noise can be deafening. Luckily we had good ear-plugs, or we would have had difficulty sleeping. (99849291)

Very central location - ideal for shops, entertainment, restaurants, swimming pool & transport links
No coffee making facilities in bedroom & no hot breakfast choices
Overall: We had booked into the Hotel Harpa, but upon arrival they upgraded us to the Hotel Kea (at no extra charge), which adjoins the Harpa. The room was very small, but it was clean, very warm, there were plenty of fresh towels, and we had a fantastic view of the fjord and the mountains on the opposite side. It took a while for the hot water to come through (about 10 minutes) but once it was flowing, it ran hot forever! The satellite TV choices were limited - there were only 2 English channels, and there were no facilities to make hot drinks. After a long day walking on lava fields/ trudging through snow/ experiencing the flight to the island of Grimsy etc. we wanted to relax with a good old cup of tea and watch a bit of TV. However, there is a good cafe across the road which does takeouts - be prepared to pay approximately £4 per cup of tea/ coffee/ hot chocolate though. The location was very central - it took 5 minutes to walk to various restaurants, a live music venue, the cinema, shops, swimming pool, the bus station and only a 10 minute taxi ride to the ice skating rink (if you like ice hockey, try to catch a game here), the (small) shopping centre or the airport. Here's a good tip if you go in the winter - it is very icy - we both fell and have bruises to be proud of. There is a cobbler just opposite the Hotel on the way to the Bus station, and he sells nails that attach to the bottom of your shoes -well worth the money! We had a fantastic 9 nights staying at the Hotel Kea, everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and we would certainly stay there again. (1627613)
Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.
Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.
All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.
48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
