Value for money, clean & Tidy, many amenities, good room service, ample carpark, better than many hotels I've stayed at with a higher rating

Overall: Felt well rested after a bad day  (108276947)

Louise (late night receptionist and bar person) was excellent and very helpful and friendly. She arranged late drinks and snacks on our arrival (1am) and was very informative about local info which we needed. She arranged a cot to be put into our room for our last night as we had our granddaughter to stay. Rooms extremely comfortable (however, see below).

A bad point would be our room was far too hot (the Elfordleigh)even with the windows open. Our son was in the room immediately below us (on the ground floor) and his room was much more comfortably cool. When our room was cleaned a cloth with bleach on it was left on top of one of our towels in the bathroom. Our son was also upset he didn't get his biscuits replaecd! Food from the bar wasn't that great (chips were never cooked properly) and I doubt the 4 egg omelette was made with 4 eggs. Breakfast wasn't as good as last time which was a shame as we were all looking forward to it.

Overall: Very good - our second time of staying. Would return and hope breakfast would be better!  (107869510)

Peace and quite and wonderful setting. Close to Plmouth.

A 3 course dinner with not a lot of choice £26.95 plus supplement of £3.95 for an 8oz rib-eye steak = £31!! The hotel is a good 3 star but compared with the excellent breakfast for £7.95 the cost of a dinner is frankly pretty poor and spoilt the overall value. Needless to say dinner was taken in the average pub style brasserie for all 3 nights! Got a bit boring and unmemorable.

Overall: Would stay there again but in the present climate get real with the dinner price - less than £20 should be the target with a choice of 2 or 3 course starting at £14.95 with NO supplements.  (107739151)

Beautiful position. Large rooms including bathroom.

Horrendous lighting everywhere which completely spoilt the ambience of both bedroom and function rooms. Decor and furnishings pretty dreadful - why all that pink?!!! Breakfast disgusting. Waiter slovenly dressed, coffee practically undrinkable (was it all chicory?), bacon like shoe leather and tomato inedible - goodness knows what they'd put on it.

Overall: Could have been wonderful because the structure of the house is beautiful (ruined by the plastic windows) and the grounds are fabulous but our stay was spoilt by the poor quality of lighting and the miserable breakfast. The reception staff were charming and very friendly and helpful. -  (107316622)

excellant accommadation

We booked this for our daughter for honeymoon, but on leaving your hotel they were given the bill to say that we had paid. We had wished this not to be given to them as we didnt want them to know how much we had paid.

Overall: excellant  (107945342)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
