Room (I had one in the separate 'Rose Cottage' rather than in the older pub building) was a good size, very clean, and with all the facilities one would expect of this category of hotel.

Similar hotels elsewhere might be a little cheaper/discounted, the price of the Unicorn is held up by the other options in the immediate area. Full breakfast was satisfactory as opposed to memorable and I did not try the evening meals where the menu may not be to everyone' taste.

Overall: My choice of hotel was influenced by its precise location but I was pleasantly surprised and would readily stay at the Unicorn again. Newton Solney is a pleasant village - take time to stroll down to the river and to visit the church - and to pop into to very nice village shop.  (108723863)

4.1 / 5 4.1 / 5 rose [kilgetty, GB] on 14/06/2009 (Mature couple)

lovely breakfasts and friendliness/helpfulness of staff,

stains on bedding (mattress protector), cleanliness of bathroom (around taps and on radiator in particular). tables not always laid ready for breakfast.

Overall: Enjoyed the weekend and would certainly stay in this hotel again  (107584494)

2.3 / 5 2.3 / 5 Anonymous on 05/05/2009 (Young couple)

clean room, comfy bed

no plug socket for hair straighteners! No option for bath (tap fed shower could not be turned off). Had to eat breakfast amid uncleared tables from the previous nights dinner guests. Poor organisation ref booking, accused of not paying on departure but done on internet.

Overall: Reasonable for 1 night but wouldn't return or recommend  (107567062)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
