The room has not had a face lift since the 70s and stunk old as soon as you walked in. Checked out before the 2nd night as wouldn't stay there a minute longer with my baby.

Overall: I have never been so disappointed in a hotel stay, especially for the price. Had just spend 2 nights previous in a Best Western - Mark Teys Colchester which cost less, included breakfast and was immaculate.  (108780496)

this was advertised as a country hotel where we expected a relaxing overnight stay. However, the hotel had booked a rock band to play during the evening and this was very loud, continuing until 11.30 pm. which we found totally unacceptable. Had we been informed on arrival that this band was to play, we would have cancelled our booking.

Overall: Not good and we will not recommend this hotel to anyone else.  (108139389)

Continental breakfast consisted of a bowl of cereal and a glass of orange juice at a cost of £3.50 - this was not what I expected or have received at other hotels. We started our stay with 3 towels, by the second night we were down to 2 and that was how it remained plus the wash basin had a large crack in it but fortunately did not leak!

Overall: The hotel is obviously in need of a lot of money being spent on it and the decor etc looked generally tired.  (108449485)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
