I couldn't fault the staff or the service. The breakfast was cooked to perfection, hot and I didn't have to wait
The carpet in my room was slightly stained in several places.I did have friends visit me there at 3pm one day and unfortunately there are no snacks in the afternoon.I was given biscuits though when I asked.
Overall: I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.Although a lone traveller I felt comfortable sitting in the bar.

Breakfast was lovely, atmosphere was very relaxing.
The main road means you experience some traffic noise. This would have affected me should I have chosen to stay for a length of time. But as a 1-2 day break it was absolutely fine.
Overall: Room 10/10
Hotel 10/10
Food 10/10

Nice building, good internal decor and recent refurbishment has made the place open and clean.
Our room faced out onto road which was not ideal given the warm weather meant windows needed to be open. However more significant were people downstairs (ground floor) who started playing the piano loudly at 1am and kept us awake for 20mins.
The light bulb one one of the bedside lamps did not work, and the TV's were old and had a bizarre multi-remote control system that despite following the instructions did not work the set top box.
As such we were left with 3 poor-reception TV channels which is not good enough.
Most unacceptable was my partner going down to get some water, and the only thing available being tiny bottles of mineral water priced at an outrageous £1.50 each. Spending £6 to get a litre of water smacks of blatant profiteering by the hotel. While that might be the restaurant offer (and nowadays offering the eco alternative of filtered tap water should be a norm anyway), guests in their rooms should always have a couple of complementary bottles of water in their rooms, and filtered water available.
Overall: Average, I might stay again but would look around at alternatives on principle first after being ripped off on the water. Short term profits lose long term customers: owners take note that your £6 there has definitely cost you far more through loss of recommendations and a potential overnight the following weekend when we are back in the area.
