The staff

when we arrived we just put our bags in to our small room not noticing anything apart from the size of the room, on our return to room we noticed No remote control . then we noticed the dust looked like it had not been dusted for weeks. i mrs preston went to reception to ask for a remote control and a duster and polish, could not help me with rmote but said she would come and dust the room. When she arrived she asked us if we wanted to move rooms, and we exepted, the new room was a lot bigger and looked ok. untill we went to bed. the mattress was very bad with springs comming through, i have a painfull back at the best of times, i never slept at all. we told reception the following day and she was quick of the mark and said she would fix it by putting a blanket over mattress, we never got breakfast that morning as they could not find corect key for the kitchen area, and we could not wait as we had a very important interview to go to, on our return we noticed a blanket had been placed over mattress, so we thought that would fix it. however it never so that night i slept on the sofa, we had breakfast and left

Overall: was looking foward to a relaxing stay. however that is not what we got. we know the price of the room was cheap, but no matter how much you pay you expect better standards. we would stay again if the problems where fixed out, before we booked we looked at tipster and had noticed a problem with a mattress, it must have been the same room, thought it would have been replaced by now. we would also stay again if we where given the best room and it was free  (108910428)

The staff were helpful and the hotel was clean and tidy. The food we did eat at the hotel was very good

Breakfast was advertised as 06.30 start but did not start until 07.00 also ther was a bar menu to choose from only to be told that this was not available only restaurant menu. This was not the case as long term residents were eating in the bar from the bar menu the same evening. This ment we had to eat our meals at a nearby hotel or eat of the set (expensive)menu in our hotel

Overall: Overall my stay at this hotel was good  (108496265)

Food was excellent, well sited, good ambience.

Room for first 2 nights was inadequate in so many ways. Hotel moved us to a superior room for the last night with adequate compensation. Fault of accommodation not staff.

Overall: We have known this hotel for 35 years but have never stayed before. It is in a beautiful spot.  (107596093)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
