4.0 / 5 4.0 / 5 Shaw [Southampton, GB] on 05/10/2009 (Solo leisure traveller)

Excellent steak, clean room, friendly staff

Some of the chef specials, for instance the fish pie was very uninspiring and bland. Location on a main road is less than ideal, lots of noisy boy racer types on the road at antisocial hours

Overall: A nice homely inn in a pretty location. The food was overall adequate although given the number of awards it claims possibly overhyped. What made my stay was the friendlyness of the staff.  (108935874)

Lovely clean sheets and towels overall cleanliness Lovely old pub - good food and drink

Excellent staff and food - room comfortable.

Road quite noisy, no chair in room and no curtain at ensuite window.

Overall: We would definitely visit the Helyar Arms again and recommend to friends.  (108908484)

A beautiful, quiet, friendly old pub. Staff was welcoming. Food was excellent. Our family ensuite was lovely. Comfortable beds, crisp sheets, big fluffy towels, even a cafetiere for our coffee! Plenty of footpaths for walking our dog.

Can't think of one!

Overall: An excellent choice for a relaxing and comfortable week-end away. Quality for a reasonable price.  (107348733)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
