The bar downstairs was very modern, clean and contemporary and seemed well staffed.

The hotel was like an annoying feature which had no ressemblance to the high standard of the bar.It was poorly equipped the room we stayed in didn't have a shower just a bath with a shower attachment and a very abrupt sign saying if used as a shower caused any leakage then you were liable. Funnily enough whilst staying in that room we were awakened by dripping water which presumably was caused by the people above not following the notices advice! No hot water in the morning! I asled for the combination code to use on a seperate available door so you didn't have to walk through the bar with all your luggage which was embarrasing but nobody on duty knew the code.

Overall: Shrewsbury itself was very interesting and pleasant.  (108837833)

We could go in at a side door instead of having to constantly walk through the trendy brasserie

Booking in was made difficult by another customer demanding to know about parking while the member of staff was trying to alter our booking which appeared incorrectly as 2 double rooms for either one or two nights. The member of staff ignored us and dealt with the interupter. Room had a bath, no shower, and the water was so tepid that we boiled kettles to try to keep clean in about 3 inches of water. We were by the kitchen extractor fan which would have been noisy if we hadn't stayed out late at folk festival events

Overall: Interesting. I suspect many hotels in the area are similar because it's very old which adds character.  (107373783)

everything was fine

sadly breakfast was far too expensive an option at £7.75 as locally it was around £3.00 to £5.00 We paid £3.89 for a large breakfast within 2 minutes walk.

Overall: great  (107362123)

The duty manager could not have been more helpful. From moving tables to accomodate a larger dinner reservation than made to helping us move rooms when we realised we were over the bar with a newborn, even bringing up iced water as it was a very humid night. He was a star. Breakfast in the Brasserie was 10/10 too!

Rooms are above a busy bar on Friday and Saturday nights so if you want an early night, beware!

Overall: Very impressed with the manager and staff who all went out of their way to be helpful. Very central hotel, but beware that the rooms are noisy until 12.30am at weekends.  (107453477)

friendly staff, clean and pleasant room.

The reception on the TV was very poor, hardly audible. Perhaps this can't be helped ?

Overall: Comfortable and relaxing apart from the noise from the bar especially on the Sat night (until 12.30).  (107408832)

Excellent position, good breakfast service

Not too many, rooms could do with a refurbishment

Overall: Enjoyable  (107302701)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
