The sheets were clean. The rate included breakfast (which I didn't have so can't comment on it) so was quite fair value.

There was a broken window in the bedroom, it was freezing and the windows had been left open, the control on the radiator was broken and it was just warm, so it took all night to warm up. The shower curtain didn't reach the shower tray, so water went all over the floor and I had to clean it up to avoid slipping on it. There was quite a bit of black mould around the tiling in the shower, which didn't really give a good impression. There wasn't a lot of parking.

Overall: This is fine for staying the odd night as it's very reasonably priced, but this seems to be reflected in the overall quality - the control to turn up the radiator was missing, there was a broken window, the shower curtain didn't fit well, the toilet seat didn't stay put, and, although the bed sheets were very clean, the rest of the room and bathroom weren't terrific and it was quite cold. It was very dark in the rear parking area (which wasn't that big) so it was difficult to see well. It was OK for staying over for work, but it wouldn't be the sort of place I would stay for leisure.  (108503620)

Lovely breakfast

Room a bit small had to stick your bum out of the en suite to use the sink! I was required to pay by credit card as opposed to debit card which Peeved me a bit and involves needless transfer of funds on my part.

Overall: Ok, more than happy to use the hotel again  (108277859)

Good food, good tea & coffee making facilities, booking in was quick, nice friendly staff.

Small point but the TV had only analogue stations(although this is the case in most hotels it seems).

Overall: A very enjoyable stay, nice friendly staff, good food, the hotel was clean and all was very reasonably priced.  (108977002)

The hotel had a nice homely atmosphere. The position, within easy walking distance of the river was great.

I had to be ask the chamber maids on my second morning to vacuum the carpet as there were crumbs all over it from the previous occupant. Breakfast was from 7 to 9 am and although I went down at 8.30 the fish delivery had not arrived so I was not able to have either haddock or kippers - but they were on the menu.

Overall: Pleasant. The room was small but I have not stayed in a single room before so maybe this is usual. If I needed an hotel in the area again, with my Husband and could book a double room I would certainly consider The Anchor.  (108451403)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
