Breakfast and other meals very good, bar very friendly and cosy.
The room we were given I Felt needed a refurbishment, decor and bathroom
definately needed attention, although everything was very clean.

Room was rather cramped with the put up beds for the children. Room was dusty in places and carpet not throughly hoovered. Cooked breakfast was a little disappointing quantity and quality.

The only good point was the Breakfast, which was delicious and served hot.
Disappointing general service.
The hotel was noisy, due to it fronting onto a fast busy main road, with heavy lorries causing the hotel to shake.
Overall: We had booked 3 nights B & B, in a Superior Room at the Downe Arms, and had emailed 3 days before to check everything was in order. When we arrived, we were given a room on the top floor at the front, which had a low ceiling and also seemed small (for a "Superior" room), but regrettably didn't complain. However, we were tired after our journey. In the morning, at breakfast we were told that a mistake had been made with the room allocation, and we should have been put in a different (larger) room. Unfortunately, we didn't ask to see the new room, and agreed that staff would move our baggage during the day. When we arrived back in the late afternoon, we were given the keys to a room that was clearly being occupied by someone else! After complaining, we did find the room with our baggage, and although larger than the first room, it was entirely unsuitable because it didn't have a shower! We were then told that all the other rooms were booked up and no alternative room was available. The manager informed us that the only alternative was to transfer to another local hotel, or a B&B. We chose the latter, which turned out to be a wise choice. The manager of the Downe Arms did offer us a free evening meal, and also to make no charge for the previous night, which we accepted as adequate recompense. (107791647)
