This is a historic 200 year old hotel, gently modernised, but essentially not much changed from its days as a coaching hotel. Lovely old sitting room and bar, tremendously atmospheric, but comfortable. Magnificent remote location most rooms looking out on Killary harbour and towering Mweelrea mountains just across the water. Majestic scenery, famous film locations and boat cruises through the fjord all nearby.

Rooms not specially large or modern. But comfortable bed and tasteful antique freestanding furniture. Glorious view from nearly all rooms.

Overall: Efficient staff, pleasant dinner, comfortable, a trip back in time, all Everything you need to enjoy a traditional old world visit. Efficient management and pleasant a la carte dinner, and very reasonable bar prices, we were pleased.  (107679557)

Beautiful hotel, food lovely, however staff not able to cope with breakfast rush. Food delicious but do not be in a hurry.

Price varys according to avability on the evening, guests booking in on the day get a rate of 50 euro per couple less than what I paid for because I had booked in advance, however I was given the same rate as I happened to arrive to pay as another couple were paying and had stayed for 1 night as we had.

Overall: Love the place. Peaceful, our room was very small, there are some nice sized rooms, seems to be the luck of the draw, but it is a place to go to relax and beds are very comfy  (97210196)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
