Friendly staff. Nice bar and restaurents in Hotel. Lodge room (my son stayed there) adequate. Breakfast very good. Excellent position.

Originally booked two rooms in Lodge. My son's had nice sea view, mine view of a brick wall. Room far too small for me.No wardrobe. Very claustrophobic. I moved into main hotel - last room available, with view of the generators!! OK if I kept windows and curtains closed. Bed a bit lumpy.

Overall: Some of the rooms in the hotel have beautiful views. If I could have had one of these then everything would have been perfect. Very nice hotel and friendly helpful staff.  (107584015)

Breakfast in main hotel very good.

Bedroom in an old annexe, needs urgent upgrading/refurbishing. No indication on booking that we would not be in main hotel. Some features of room not working, lights, smell of cigarette smoking.

Overall: A distinct difference between the main hotel and these rooms. Not really up to the standard that was expected, probably reflected in the price but we should have had the option when the booking was made then we would probably have declined.  (108311874)

I booked online and the home page showed the Roker Hotel, but when we arrived we were told we were in Roker Lodge. The booking system is misleading and misrepresentative as the rooms we were given in the Roker Lodge were dirty and not acceptable. The noise levels in the hotel kept me from sleeping. Doors were being banged and shouting in the corridors until well after 4.30am. I was so tired and had a seven hours journey the following day. I think it might be helpful if notices were erected reminding guests that there are some who want to SLEEP and to keep the noise levels down.

Overall: The hotel is nice and the location is good. It just so happened that on this occasion we were not so fortunate as we have been in the past.  (108591532)

Hand and shower wash in en-suite. Fridge in room.

Walls too thin so when drunken guests are giggling all hours of the morning you are kept awake. Also those above you sound like herds of elephants! I requested a groundfloor room for a disabled elderly couple, they were placed on the top floor of a 3 storey building with no lift available. The beds were lumpy and the tv aerial needed repair.

Overall: We were really tired from being kept awake all night from very noisy guests from the wedding party and really didn't enjoy the stay in that hotel. We won't be booking there next year when we return.  (108113205)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
