Good location for Monreale cathederal & only 3 miles from Palermo. Good view of Palermo from bedroom.

Its on a busy main road, but as he hotel looks very new & is doulbe glazed you cannot hear any traffic.

Location and the interesting conversion of an historic property.

Bedroom lighting poor for reading in bed (typical of most hotels!); cold terracotta floors in winter--a few rugs would help; no drawers or shelf for underwear; nowhere in bathroom to put toiletries bags. Also, no ventilation in bathroom. Television only worked for one day--could not manage to get it working after that. Very irritating.

Overall: The rooms were spacious and quite nicely furnished, although on the whole we would say the hotel is a triumph of style over practicality. The terracotta floor is cold with not enough rugs for winter; the bedside lighting is very poor; the bathroom would benefit from better storage facility for bathroom toiletry bags; also, no ventilation in the bathroom (the exhaust fan was not installed). The impression is that the hotel opened before everything was checked for correct installation and operation. However, on the whole, the hotel is in the most interesting part of Syracusa, even if parking is very difficult, and it is generally a pleasant property nicely converted.  (99226053)

Quality and size of accommodation

Lack of parking

Overall: This hotel was very handy for the historic area of Ortigia in Syracuse and is located in an interesting old building. The staff were very helpful and friendly.  (99691285)

Location Character/decor/architecture

The way that noise can travel through the place

Overall: The location of this hotel is ideal for exploring Ortigia, and even the Archeological Park (Neopolis) is within walking distance (if you regard yourself as a fit walker). At no point in the stay did we pass another hotel and think 'that place would have been more convenient'. Also, the hotel has great character inside: rooms are arranged around a central courtyard, and it retains its period details and feel - such a change from your standard holiday hotels. Our room was comfortable, clean, with a fridge and little kitchenette, which we didn't expect. I would only point out that only the disadvantage of staying in such an interesting building is that sound travels really well through it, so if anyone is opening and closing doors or walking around the corridors, you can hear bangs and voices from your room. OK, so all hotels can be a bit noisy, and at least this one definitely has no problem with traffic noise, so the advice is - stay here, you'll like it, but for the stay to be perfect, pack some ear plugs if you want a lie-in. And, if you do stay there, be considerate of other guests! Despite that, we would use the hotel again  (99089457)

Why do we publish ratings from Active Hotels?

Our rating system is designed to give you the confidence to find and book the hotel that best suits your needs. We've worked hard to create a fair and impartial process to collect our ratings so you can always be assured of a great hotel experience.

How do I add a rating?

Unlike other sites that offer ratings, our rating process is by invitation only. This ensures that 100% of the ratings you see on our site come from guests that have booked online with us and stayed at the hotel in question.

All our ratings are created by guests who have booked through Active Hotels (or its sister sites) and completed their stay over the last year. We don't edit, alter or adjust the ratings so you can be sure of unbiased opinions.

How do you manage to collect so many ratings?

48 hours after departure from your accommodation booked through Active Hotels or any of our sister sites, you may be invited to complete a guest review questionnaire. This means that, for most hotels, we're able to post more than 1 guest rating every single week. We currently display over 70,000 ratings and we add hundreds of scores from real guests every day.
