The hotel was built as a residence in the Victorian era and became one of the town's leading hotels in the 1920s. Set on the edge of the verdant common, it is still only a short stroll from the shops, restaurants, cafes and theatres.

Because of the historic nature of the building, we regret that neither the main building nor the annexe have lifts. Guide dogs are allowed.
All our rooms are en suite, and have a TV and tea/coffee making facility. Some of our rooms look across the common and some across the town. We have 5 studio suites, which have a kitchenette with toaster, fridge, sink and microwave. These rooms also come with sofa, desk, and free internet connection. These rooms are in the annex building and are very popular with people who are working in the town for a long time and want a homely feeling. Many people leave the car in the hotel park to go to work in the town (parking is free for our guests).
We serve a full English breakfast, which is included in the price. The hotel does not serve dinner, however there are many restaurants from within one minute's walk.
By Rail Tunbridge Wells is connected to London by a frequent train service taking less than an hour. The hotel is a 3 minute taxi ride or a 10 minute walk from the station. By Car - Tunbridge Wells is about an hour’s drive from London and Heathrow Airport, and less from Gatwick Airport. From the M25 motorway: - At junction 5 of the M25 turn off onto the A21. - Take the A21 Southbound (signposted Hastings) for about 8 miles, following signs for Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells. - Take the A26 into Tunbridge Wells. In the town at the first mini-roundabout, turn right (signposted East Grinstead and through-traffic). - Continue past Kent and Sussex Hospital and approximately 400 m later on down the hill, with the common on your right-hand side, the Russell Hotel is on your left on a corner (junction with Lime Hill Road). - Turn left down the road before the Hotel (‘no through road’). At the no entry sign, turn right into the hotel car park.
