Opposite the railway station, in central Huddersfield, this Victorian railway hotel offers free parking and is known around the world as the birthplace of Rugby League.
Built in 1851, the George Hotel has been carefully preserved as a Grade II listed building. In 1895 it hosted the meeting that founded Rugby League. The hotel houses the UK’s only Rugby League heritage museum.
All of the en suite rooms have TVs, tea/coffee, telephones, hairdryers and ironing facilities. The hotel also has a traditional lounge, The Founders Bar and St George’s Restaurant.
On the town's main square, the hotel is less than a mile (1.6 km) from Galpharm Stadium, home to Huddersfield Giants (rugby) and Huddersfield Town (football). The M62 motorway and the Pennines are within easy reach.

Group Bookings: Please note that for group bookings of 10 rooms or more, special terms apply. For group bookings, cancellations must be made at least 28 days before the date of arrival and full prepayment must be made 28 days prior to the arrival date.
Rooms are available with one double bed or 2 twin single beds. If you have a preference, please inform the hotel on the day of booking, using the comments field when making your reservation.

By Car (from the M62 motorway): - Leave the M62 motorway at junction 24 and follow the signs for Huddersfield on the A629. - Upon approaching the Ainley Top roundabout, turn right. - When you approach a mini-roundabout, turn left. - Take your next left. You should now be going down a steep hill. - On approaching the T-junction, turn right. - When you get to the traffic lights, the hotel is on the right-hand side, next to the railway station. By Rail: Huddersfield railway station is opposite the hotel, offering a direct express rail link to Manchester Airport and all major towns and cities across the breadth of the country.
