Many of the hotel's period features have been retained in our front facing bedrooms which overlook the marina and Lews Castle Grounds, so it's worth booking early and requesting one of these. Each is very individual. It's said that Lord Leverhulme used to sit in the oriel window of his room, watching the goings on prior to moving in to the castle. Rear facing rooms are in more contemporary style, are comfortable and a little quieter than those facing the street at the front - though this small town is rarely noisy.

The Royal is about 200 metres north of the town centre, alongside the marina and lifeboat station - an easy level stroll. On foot from the ferry (total distance about 400 metres), leave the terminal by the pedestrian entrance, through the bus station. Walk alongside the car park to the pedestrian crossing adjacent to Clydesdale Bank. Cross the pedestrian crossing, continue walking towards the Town Hall and take the first turn right (Cromwell Street). Walk straight along Cromwell Street, through the town centre and the Royal Hotel is approximately 200 metres beyond Woolworths store, on your right. From the ferry, by car, turn left out of the ferry terminal, straight across the first 'mini-roundabout' then continue along the sea front (South Beach Street), passing the bus station and car park on your left and the town hall on the right. The main road makes two right hand turns into the town centre, passing the inner harbour, and then continues alongside the marina. The Royal hotel is situated on the right hand side of the road, opposite the lifeboat station. From the airport, by car, follow signs for Stornoway town centre, then follow above instructions on reaching South Beach Street (the sea front). From Tarbert, by car, turn right at the first roundabout at the edge of the town. Continue straight on at the next roundabout, passing Manor Filling Station on your left. The Royal Hotel is approximately 400 metres beyond Manor Filling Station, on the left side of the road.
