From its distinctive architecture to its effortless service and genuine hospitality, The Malton - formerly the Great Southern Hotel - has been a favourite retreat for over 150 years.
After warming yourself by the open fire in our entrance hall, ease into a soft velvet sofa and enjoy afternoon tea. We like to think time slows down just a little at The Malton. Enjoy the light as it streams through tall windows, ramble through our gardens, and rest for a while on a secluded bench. Where else are you going to find 6 acres of gardens in the centre of a bustling town? This is life at The Malton, a Victorian landmark, and one of Ireland's most beautiful hotels since 1854.

Your room at The Malton is about total relaxation. Luxuriate with Gilchrist & Soames body washes and crèmes before stretching out on crisp white bed linen. Every room offers luxury, whether in the Main House, with its high Victorian ceilings and impossibly tall windows, or the newer Garden Wing, for contemporary comfort and style. Each room at The Malton has something special – some with smooth leather headboards, others with silky curtains, or stylish wallpaper. Some rooms are decorated in restful, natural colours and textures, others in funky, hip colours straight out of a magazine. Rooms in the Main House are designed with traditional charming decor reflecting The Malton’s classic heritage.
The Malton's classic Garden Room Restaurant showcases the best tastes of the Kerry countryside, all under the great gilded dome of our original stunning Victorian dining room. Enjoy warm baked bread from The Malton Bakery while our sommelier presents you the perfect bottle from our wine cellar. The menu features an exciting mix of traditional recipes artfully prepared with a modern twist. Head chef John O'Leary can often be seen on pilgrimage to local markets and farms, buying the freshest seasonal fruit and vegetables. These local specialities are highlighted on the menu. Some neighbourhood foods to look out for are Killorglin Gouda cheese, locally smoked ham, native seafood, Killarney honey, and local beef and pork - fully traceable to Kerry farmers. The Garden Room Restaurant overlooks The Malton's landscaped gardens, where you can enjoy our famous breakfast, or an absolutely elegant evening out. Peppers is The Malton's à la carte restaurant, and offers a less formal setting than the Garden Room Restaurant. Peppers finds inspiration in classical dishes, skilfully infusing them with sunny, fresh Mediterranean flavours. The stylishly furnished dining room seems to glow with soft lighting, rich colours, and intelligent service. Always present is the easy, friendly manner of John Fitzgerald, Maitre d' Hotel, who has spent the last 40 years welcoming guests and insuring a perfect evening.
