Situated well of the beaten track in a spectacular position above the River Usk, this charming country house hotel offers log fires, a sunny terrace, locally sourced food and plenty of walking routes in the surroundings.
Placed between the 2 market towns of Abergavenny and Brecon in the valley of the River Usk, this family-run establishment sits just south of the A40.
Set in the middle of the Brecon Beacon's National Park, the hotel has a stunning location, with spectacular views of its own grounds and the River Usk.
With delicious cuisine and friendly, efficient service Gliffaes is the ideal base for exploring the magical Brecon Beacons National Park and walking through the countryside and surrounding hills.
You may wish for nothing more than a lazy lunch in the sunny conservatory with a bottle of wine, followed by a walk along the river and afternoon tea. Then, round off the day with a drink by the fire.

Silence is in abundance, and from your room you will hear nothing but the birds and the river. Gliffaes has 23 bedrooms, a number of which are twin bedded. All are individually decorated and furnished sympathetically in keeping with the character of the hotel. All rooms have private bathrooms. The rooms are priced according to size and the view they offer. The more luxurious rooms have spectacular views across the Usk Valley, while others all look over the magnificent grounds. There is one room one the ground floor with an adapted bathroom. This room would be suitable for those who have difficulty with stairs.
Small double rooms are mainly used as singles. They are all individually decorated and furnished, and have private bathrooms. They offer every modern amenity for today's discerning guest.
Standard double rooms are all individually decorated and furnished, with a double bed and private bathroom with views overlooking the courtyard or garden. Rooms include all the modern facilities today's guest would expect.
Large double rooms include a double bed and a seating area. They are more spacious than the standard double rooms. Most of the rooms have a DVD player and the hotel has a collection of DVDs for guests to watch at their leisure. All are individually decorated and furnished, and include all the modern facilities guests would expect.
Luxury double rooms are more luxuriously decorated and furnished than other room types, with a balcony and spectacular views of the River Usk. The room has a double bed and private bathroom, as well as a comfortable seating area. The rooms feature all the modern facilities today's guest would expect.
Being in the middle of a National Park and surrounded by farmland, the hotel has access to some particularly good meat; lamb and beef in particular. The hotel has earned an AA Rosette for its cooking for the 8th year in a row. Most of the dinner menu is changed daily, and offers a choice of 5 starters, mains and desserts, and there is always a vegetarian option. With prior notice, most diets will be catered for.
By Car From the West: - Cross the Severn Bridge on the M4 and take exit 24 (A449). - Travel for 12 miles north on the A449 and take the A40 exit signed to Abergavenny. - Follow the dual carriageway (A40) for 9 miles to the edge of Abergavenny. - Follow the A40 through the centre of Abergavenny, following signs for Brecon. From the North: - Take the M6 - M5. - Get off the M5 at junction 8 (M50). - At the end of the M50, take the A40. - Turn off the A40 Abergavenny. - Follow the A40 through the centre of Abergavenny, then follow signs for Brecon.
