Steeped in history, the warm and inviting Anchor Hotel has overlooked Church Square in the charming village of Shepperton for over 400 years.
The village of Shepperton is situated near the River Thames, no more than 18 miles (30 km) south-west of London. The hotel is based in a quiet residential area, not far from the famous Shepperton Studios.
During its rich and colourful history, the hotel has played host to some famous guests. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor's romance blossomed here while they were filming at Shepperton. In the 18th century, when the hotel was just an inn, it was a regular haunt for the notorious highwayman, Dick Turpin. This may explain a pistol found hidden in the rafters, bearing the chilling inscription 'Dick's Friend'.
Today, the hotel combines period charm with modern comforts. There are 29 en suite rooms and the hotel offers lunch and dinner.
