The Royal Albion was originally built in 1760 and Charles Dickens was a regular visitor. The famous Bleak House, Dickens' home in Broadstairs, is within sight.
The rear gardens lead out onto the town's seafront promenade, with direct access to the sandy beaches.

Ballard's Bar and Restaurant is named after James Ballard, the owner of the hotel when Charles Dickens was a frequent guest. Lunch is available from 12:00 until 14:30 and can be served either inside, overlooking the sea or al fresco on the terrace. In the evening, the busy restaurant specialises in local seafood. The restaurant is open between 18:30 and 21:30, with bookings highly recommended. Morning coffees can be taken in the relaxing lounge area adjacent to the restaurant. The bars offer famous Kentish real ales from the Shepherd Neame brewery, alongside a wide range of wines from around the world.
